So, what's the role?
As a Work Health & Safety Advisor at the City of Unley, you will play a vital role in providing legislative and operational WHS advice to the organisation. Your expertise will directly support the implementation of health and safety management systems that foster a culture of safety and well-being throughout the council. You will collaborate closely with various teams, ensuring that safety is always a priority and not just a checkbox. This means assisting them in achieving operational outcomes outlined in the WHS & RTW Strategic Improvement Plan, all while focusing on risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident management.
Here's what a typical day might look like: Provide WHS support to managers and staff to help maintain a safe work environment. Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote a supportive safety culture. Assist with incident management and investigations, mentoring leaders in finding solutions and coordinating inquiries. Lead hazard identification and risk assessments, enhancing staff skills in these areas. Support workplace investigations, preparing reports and collaborating with SafeWork SA. Work with the WHS Lead on internal audits to assess and improve safety management. Help team leaders identify training needs, safety controls, and PPE requirements for their teams. Provide support for software like Skytrust and Chemalert to streamline WHS documentation. Collaborate on well-being initiatives that enhance employee mental and physical health. While the ideal candidate will have solid WHS experience, we're not seeking a compliance expert who can't connect with others - we're looking for someone who can build relationships with colleagues at all levels. If you're passionate about creating a supportive safety culture and have the interpersonal skills to engage and motivate others, this role could be the perfect fit for you! We're looking for someone who:
Has solid experience delivering WHS services in diverse environments Can build strong relationships across the organisation; we value someone who can connect with team members at all levels and foster collaboration Possesses a minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and has comprehensive knowledge of WHS legislation and compliance activities. Can implement WHS management systems and develop or review related policies and procedures. Has WHS auditing and ICAM qualifications or experience. Is strong in computer literacy, particularly in Skytrust or similar applications, and is proficient in Microsoft Suite. Has strong time management skills and can meet deadlines effectively. Actively seeks and suggests ways to enhance work practices and outcomes. Collaborates well both independently and as part of a team to create a supportive work environment.
