YOUR ROLE AT LUNA
We are looking for a VP or Legal who leads our team of lawyers to deliver cutting-edge solutions for early stage startups. Here's a closer look at this exciting role:
Driving Success Across Launch Legal
Service Delivery: Own quality control of client delivery work to ensure all outgoing work is to the Luna standard. Performance manage and continually provide feedback to maintain and improve quality control. Act as the escalation point for all client delivery matters.
Resourcing: Triage client delivery pipeline to distribute capacity adequately.
Legal Guru: Subject matter expert for all technical legal questions across the team.
First Escalation: First escalation point for all client inquiries in the team.
Training: Own legal training program so that team is trained on technical legal education, product offering, customer journey, and client experience relevant to Launch and LUNA standard.
Pricing: Regularly provide input and recommendations to Head of Startups (HoS) on pricing structure.
Product & Pricing: Regularly provide input and recommendations to HoS on product offering, including products that deepen relationships between both accounting and legal arms.
Client Relationships: In collaboration with HoS, co-manage all legal client relationships to ensure positive client relationships and quality control of client delivery work.
Legal Service Delivery
Brilliant Work: Deliver technically excellent and commercially sensible legal documents and advice, tailored to early stage clients. This includes:
Venture Investment - SAFEs and convertible notes, venture debt, equity crowdfunding through to Series A raises.
Structuring Advice - set up and governance of early stage companies.
Employee Incentives - including ESOPs and bonus plans.
General Commercial - the whole suite of BAU-style contracting, including SaaS and technology licensing.
Hit Targets: Hit individual quarterly revenue targets and output points as set out by HoS.
Team Performance & Culture
Team Points and Revenue Targets: Own team to successfully hit quarterly revenue targets and output points as set out by HoS.
WIP: Run weekly team WIPs to drive performance towards weekly revenue targets and output points.
Hiring: Recruit and hire all legal headcount per Headcount Plan.
Team Performance: Manage performance of the team. Manage and mentor Coaches so they successfully manage Coachee performance. Navigate team relations, promotions, and terminations.
Coachee Mentoring: Manage and mentor Coaches. Provide Coaches with professional growth opportunities.
Team Culture and Connection: Foster team culture and promote LUNA Core Values.
Operations
Points: Ensure team submits weekly output points. Perform mid-month output point reviews to oversee capacity barriers and ensure HoS provides accurate monthly report-outs.
Systems: Ensure team's adoption and usage of internal systems and tools, in line with LUNA best practice - Asana, Hubspot, NPS and Qwilr and ensure HoL provides accurate monthly report-outs.
THE SKILLS YOU BRING
You should apply if you:
Have an LLB or JD gained from an Australian or an international university, with at least 5 years of post admission legal experience.
Have a good foundation at a reputable law firm and/or in-house team, working in the following areas.
Have specialised focus on venture or commercial investment will be highly regarded.
Have experience working across general corporate matters - corporate governance, employee equity and incentivisation, structuring and capital management (including cap table issues, share buy-backs and capital restructuring).
Have strong drafting, review and negotiation skills across the suite of investment transactions.
Have an ability to work autonomously – leading, managing and executing on a range of investment and corporate transactions from end to end.
Can demonstrate strong coaching and management skills, working well with a team of legal pros.
Have a proven track record of finding and winning new business and can demonstrate the ability to train a team on these skills.
Are based in Melbourne, Sydney or Byron.
Are eligible to work in Australia.
