NAIF provides finance to encourage and complement private and public sector investment in economic infrastructure.NAIF is passionate about making a difference to the local economy by funding the construction of facilities or facility upgrades that will boost employment in the region. NAIF has been allocated $7 billion and is well established with commitments totaling over $4.4 billion across 33 investments in Central and North Queensland, Northern Territory, and northern Western Australia.About the RoleReporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer this senior position works closely with various business units across the organisation, particularly with our Investment and Portfolio Management teams. With over six locations, NAIF has a network of offices across Australia. There is flexibility as to where this position could be based.If you have a passion for working with others through regulatory matters relating to enterprise compliance with the NAIF Act and Investment Mandate, providing legal advice and support on complex project and infrastructure transactions, then this may be your next career change.ResponsibilitiesWork closely as a key member of the Investment team's deal team to provide legal advice on the structuring of transactions and leverage networks to assist the Investment team's origination activities.Review investment and related papers for the Investment Review Group and NAIF Board consideration, to ensure all legal and other requirements imposed on NAIF have been satisfied.Take a leading role within the Investment team to ensure all condition precedents to reaching contractual and financial close of a NAIF financing transaction are closely monitored and are satisfied in a timely manner.Provide advice on and analysis of relevant legislative, and regulatory matters as required including in respect of NAIF's mandate, the Commonwealth Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act and other applicable legislation and policies applicable to NAIF and/or the northern Australian jurisdictions.Work on Freedom of Information enquires and provide input as required in relation to regulatory submissions.Assist the Chief Legal Officer to strengthen existing and build new relationships with relevant Commonwealth and State Government Departments and external legal counsels, including the Australian Government Solicitor.About youCollaborative and positive mindset that can drive outcomes focused solutions.Excellent negotiation and analytical skills to recommend sound commercially orientated decisions and the maturity to challenge and escalate as required.Relevant tertiary qualification and admitted as a solicitor in any Australian jurisdiction (or with the ability to become admitted within a short period)Experience to date has been obtained through a top tier commercial law firm or senior in-house role, within banking and finance sectors, preferably including corporate, project, asset or property finance experience.Experience or exposure to the government sector with knowledge of relevant Government policies, systems and procedures would be an advantage.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to distil complex issues and be able to discuss with non-legally trained persons.Our CultureAt NAIF, we are driven by our purpose, values, and commitment to inclusion.
