V-Bundaberg Driver Supervisor/Mentor (Drive For Life)

Details of the offer

ABOUT US
The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.
Start your volunteer experience with The Salvation Army today! We are looking for compassionate people who share our mission and values; if you have the passion and drive to commit yourself to a challenging and rewarding role, we invite you to review our current vacancies.
The Drive for Life program primarily supports young people aged between 16-25 who are overcoming adversity and need support to achieve their driver's licence. Drive for Life believes all young people should have the opportunity to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. Having a driver's licence is a key milestone in a young person's life and helps them move towards independence. Being able to drive gives young people the choice and control necessary to realise their education, employment, and housing goals.
Your role is first and foremost about supporting safe driving: role modelling it, speaking about it, and helping a young person practice and consolidate the driving skills learned with a professional Driving Instructor. As part of this role, you will sit in the car with the young driver and assist in logging the 120 hours of supervised driving required to sit the test.
In addition, you will provide constructive feedback, model respectful communication, patience, and clear boundaries. Volunteer Mentors have a strong ability to demonstrate empathy, consistency, reliability and promote safe and stable relationships.
Volunteers are intrinsic to the success of the program and participant; they will be providing much needed ongoing support and mentorship to program participants. To help set volunteers up for success, they will be provided with extensive and necessary training, ongoing support and become a valued member of the team. The Salvation Army will also provide a fully equipped vehicle for driving sessions with the young driver.
Volunteering with The Salvation Army is a great opportunity to actively support one of Australia's largest not-for-profit organisations. It will also help you gain experience, skills and knowledge in a highly supportive environment. At The Salvation Army we care about our volunteers and are dedicated to ensuring your experience is both rewarding and memorable. You can go home every day knowing you've contributed to something special.
