Your Role: To be a trusted adviser to the business by providing legal and drafting expertise in the development of clear, concise, effective and distinctly 'Chubb' policy wordings, while ensuring policy wordings are drafted in accordance with relevant regulatory and legislative requirements.
Your Responsibilities: To assist in delivering policy wording drafting services to the Australian and New Zealand business operations, including:
responsibility for the design and technical writing of new policy wordings across various business lines, in consultation with key business stakeholders, including any associated schedules, certificates of insurance and endorsements – while having regard to customer value considerations, legal aspects of policy wording writing and underwriting requirements.collaborate with key business stakeholders to understand product intention, target market, product design, distribution methods and vision.
confidence in drafting and developing clear policy wordings, while providing advice to business managers on legal aspects in the course of drafting their insurance products.editing and proofreading policy wordings.relationship mangement of key business stakeholders and responsibility for managing large pieces of wordings project work.knowledge of relevant legislation and its application to insurance contracts, including the Insurance Act, the Insurance Contracts Act, the Corporations Act (including financial services legislation) and the Competition & Consumer Act.research and application of insurance policy construction.maintaining awareness of legal and regulatory requirements (such as unfair contract terms and design and distribution obligations), and monitoring changes and developments in the legal and regulatory landscape, including AFCA decisions and regulatory publications.assisting in the development and maintenance of style guide, policy wording templates, and precedent documents.liaising with various business stakeholders including the Risk, Compliance and Claims Teams, and the Complaints and Customer Resolution Team to analyse internalclaims information and feedback on existing policy wordings.communicate and co-operate with key internal stakeholders within Australia and other jurisdictions.
QualificationsCurrent NSW Practising CertificateLaw degree with 3 to 5 years post qualification legal experience preferably in insurance and/or commercial law in either private legal practice or a corporate organisation (preferably an insurance company or other financial institution).Front-end insurance experience, incuding policy wording drafting and advice will be highly regarded.Understanding of regulatory frameworks impacting the financial service industry (such as unfair contract terms) will be highly regarded.Confidence in drafting and developing policy wordings and an interest in technical writing.Knowledge of plain language writing, appreciation of grammar, and strong editing skills.Ability to provide commercially-focussed legal and regulatory advice and policy drafting support.Ability to manage competing priorities and business stakeholders.Ability to work both autonomously and within a team.Demonstrated effective and pro-active communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to be capable of dealing with all levels of Chubb personnel as well as external parties. Must be good with people.Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and adhere to deadlines.A positive attitude and high integrity.
