An exciting opportunity to join the team in the Anaesthetics Department as a Trainee (1 year contract only) for maternity leave cover at Royal North Shore Hospital. Where you'll be working - Royal North Shore Hospital Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care. Royal North Shore Hospital provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services.
The primary purpose of a Trainee in Anaesthesia is to provide anaesthesia services, under supervision, as part of the basic training program of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Trainees are required to extend their clinical assessment knowledge and skills to manage anaesthesia for common medical conditions of moderate complexity and optimise outcomes for patients through appropriate consultation and supervision. Trainees will participate as a multidisciplinary team member across key areas of anaesthetics, including:
anaesthesia and sedationregional anaesthesiaairway managementpain medicineperioperative medicineresuscitationtrauma and crisis managementTrainees will be required to rotate to other locations within the District, Rural Hospitals and Westmead Children Hospital.

Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.Adept verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of anaesthesia.Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.Preferred demonstrated broader community involvement and service. Candidates successful at progressing to interview will be contacted and asked to undergo further specific occupational psychometric testing prior to interview.Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy PD2024_015, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
