About the role

We are seeking an empathetic, experienced Team Leader for a fixed term, full-time opportunity (with possible extension) to work alongside a caring team in the Cairns area. You will provide leadership and support a team to deliver person-centred, recovery-oriented care to clients to develop daily living and social skills, build community networks, achieve wellbeing goals and live independently in the community. The Team Leader will act as the practice lead to Community Mental Health Practitioners and Peer Practitioners providing supervision, mentoring and coaching.

About the service

The Community Care Unit (CCU) is a residential service providing intensive treatment and recovery support to help people experiencing serious mental health issues whose lives have been disrupted making living independently difficult. Clients can access staff 24/7 whilst being supported to stabilise their mental health, define recovery goals and wellbeing outcomes, build daily living skills, strengthen relationships with families and carers, develop social connections and community networks and increase capacity to live independently. The CCU service provides personalised one-to-one support, shared supports, workshops and group activities based on client's strengths and goals as identified in their individual recovery plan.

Key responsibilities

Coach and lead a team to deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.

Support clients to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.

Lead and model effective practice to staff working with clients, provide support to families and carers, and plan and deliver group work.

Manage the day-to-day operations of the service including administration, rostering, facilitating handovers, recruitment and planning budget expenditure.

Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client's recovery goals.

What you'll bring

Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.

Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.

Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.

Experience in guiding a team to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.

Proven ability to effectively lead and develop a team to achieve best quality service outcomes and provide professional supervision.
