Ipswich City Council is on an exciting journey to uplift its governance frameworks and processes across the organisation. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role by leading and shaping the implementation of several key initiatives to increase Council's compliance with legislation and enhance governance practices across council.
About the role As the Team Leader (Governance Services) you will be part of the Governance Services Team and responsible for
development and delivery of Council's governance, risk and assurance frameworks; and ongoing growth of Council's governance culture, capabilities and practices. Your main focus will be on building Council's governance maturity and overseeing the delivery of Team's key functions including Right to Information applications, corporate travel, conflicts of interest, human rights and maintenance of Council's policies, procedures, administrative directives, delegations, and instruments of appointment.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Lead the delivery of a customer focussed governance service offering industry best practice advice and support to the organisation, including the implementation and promotion of strategies, projects, policies, procedures relating to the design of Council's governance, risk and assurance frameworks. Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Council's governance framework including policies and procedures, corporate training and communications campaigns within the agreed project scope, budget and timeframes. Undertake Internal Review requests of Right to Information and Information Privacy applications under delegated authority and liaise with Office of the Information Commissioner on External Reviews. Oversee the ongoing implementation of the Human Rights Act 2019 , including monitoring emerging case law and providing advice on emerging issues and risks. Oversee Council's the management of the Conflicts of Interests for Employees Register, including the monitoring and reporting of trends and provide advice to staff on conflicts of interest. To be successful in this role you will have:
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or extensive experience to carry out the range of duties required. Extensive knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and monitor legislative compliance. Experience and expertise in identifying, developing, implementing, and reviewing an organisation's governance structure and deliver governance projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which foster inclusive and consultative practices. About the benefits This is a permanent, full time Level 8 position with a salary commencing at $121,294 plus superannuation of up to 12.5%.
