You will also provide training to foster families to ensure they are equipped to provide the quality care that young people require.
Each day will be very distinct in this varied role however, your key everyday jobs will include:
Oversee all functions of service delivery and practice including initial screening, intake processes and response plans; the development, co-ordination, ongoing review and assessment of care arrangements; the provision of direct in-home support services to foster and kinship carers, and/or families, including the provision of afterhours and 'on-call' services on a rotational basis or as required.Provide practice oversight and direct supervision and mentoring to professional and paraprofessional staff providing advice, referral and direct support services to foster and kinship carers and/or families and the community.Maintain current knowledge in relation to children having experienced trauma, child protection issues, effective prevention and intervention strategies in meeting complex needs.Work collaboratively with key stakeholders (family members, counsellors, statutory child protections services, school/teachers, police, health professionals, community support services) through negotiation of intervention plans to meet the individual needs of the child, young person, carers, and their family.Participate in the development of work practices and procedures in compliance with legislation and frameworks.Respond promptly to client grievances or escalate as appropriate.Work sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, children, young people, families and communities to provide culturally inclusive services and achieve sustainable outcomes within a culturally safe environment with the aim of circumventing the intergenerational cycle of over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care.About you You are a charismatic leader who assimilates seamlessly with your team members and can mentor them to achieve their potential. You can provide best practice advice when it comes to managing complex situations.
With excellent communication skills, you are capable of liaising comfortably with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You have a comprehensive knowledge of legislative and service requirements and effortlessly promote a culture of compliance.
To be suitable for this position, your qualifications for the role will consist of:
Degree qualifications in social work, psychology, social sciences or a related discipline.Demonstrated knowledge of the contemporary challenges for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.Applied knowledge and understanding of child protection and out-of-home care frameworks, including knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999.A sound understanding of child development and trauma theory, to inform assessment and decision making.Understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012.Current driver's licence.Practical knowledge of financial management systems and budgeting.Current National Police Certificate – or the ability to acquire.Current Working with Children (Blue Card) – or the ability to acquire.Possess Licensed Care Service (Child Protection) – or the ability to acquire.Who we are Churches of Christ has been an active part of the community for more than 130 years.
