The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is t he leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
The College is a not-for-profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.
RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia-Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research.
There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia being: Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.

About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Policy Officer/Senior Policy Officer to join our Policy and Advocacy Team on a fixed-term 12-month contract.
In this temporary role, you will be instrumental in delivering key initiatives, developing policy and advocacy strategies that align with the strategic vision of the College.

As the Policy Officer/Senior Policy Officer, you will collaborate closely with various College departments, including Education, Marketing and Communications, to achieve our goals.
You will also contribute to the development and analysis of standards, policies, position papers, submissions and projects that support the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons' (RACS) strategic intent.

Skills and Experience
Policy Development: Expertise in coordinating and reviewing policies, analysing impacts on the surgical profession and healthcare in Australia, and preparing detailed documentation and submissions.
Project Management: Proven ability to implement project plans, manage committee activities, and liaise with stakeholders, with experience in preparing project documentation and reports.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, high-level writing and editing, and exceptional interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration and teamwork.
Organizational and Analytical Skills: Proficient in research, problem-solving, time management, and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.
Qualifications and Professionalism: Relevant degree or equivalent experience, with a background in healthcare or professional organizations, committed to continuous improvement and strategic objectives.
This role is of limited duration and is being offered on a max term basis until November 2025due to parental leave backfill.
