The opportunity Support CSIRO's Agriculture and Food Research UnitPartner with senior leadership to drive positive business outcomesJoin CSIRO - Australia's National Science and Innovation AgencyOur Strategic Human Resources (HR) Partners are a small team of experienced HR practitioners who engage and partner with senior leaders to understand CSIRO business needs, provide strategic advice and broker people services & initiatives.
A Strategic HR Partner plays a key role in understanding the commercial needs and priorities of CSIRO and translating them into a plan to guide the People Teams effort.
The Strategic HR Partner is the entry point or 'front door' into the People Team for Executives looking for guidance and support in running their business unit and are critical in improving People business value.
The role is responsible for supporting the Agriculture & Food Research Unit, providing input on strategy and people-related matters, and partnering with senior leaders to drive these initiatives for business success.
The Strategic HR Partner - Agriculture & Food is an essential position in the Strategic Partnering team supporting CSIRO's second largest Research Unit.
Your duties will include: Collaborate with research unit senior leaders to understand CSIRO business needs, offer strategic advice, and facilitate people services and initiatives.Oversee the activities of Strategic Partners in partnership with the Executive Manager People Partnering, ensuring strong team performance and development.Be a proactive participant on research unit leadership teams, advising on people matters.Provide input into research unit strategy and people matters relevant to business success, such as talent development, succession, workforce and operational planning, organisational design.Understand business needs and translate research unit strategy and requirements into the People plan to guide the People Teams effort.Support research unit senior leaders to deliver organisational change in their respective research units, monitor the impact of business decisions on people and support the development of the desired employer brand and culture.Challenge the business to ensure integrated people strategy, talent strategy approach, and fair people management.Combine internal expertise with the knowledge of the latest trends in HR to suggest appropriate solutions to business unit challenges.Work closely with subject matter experts and the People team to continuously monitor and identify opportunities for improvement in the efficiency and quality of HR services.
Provide business feedback to appropriate HR governance forums.Analyse, interpret and act on information and themes developed from strategic reports provided by subject matter experts and shared services teams.Demonstrate integrity, tact, and the ability to handle personal, sensitive, and confidential information; understand appropriate use and disclosure of personal information and relevant privacy legislation.Location: St Lucia, Brisbane or Black Mountain, Canberra preferred; other locations considered.
Salary: AU$152k - AU$168k plus 15.4% superannuation.
Tenure: Indefinite.

To be considered you will need: A Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business, or a similar discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.At least 10 years' experience providing generalist and strategic HR advice on complex matters, including crafting effective people solutions and working closely with senior executives.Strong ability to lead discussions with senior stakeholders, clearly articulate business needs, and create suitable strategic responses while holding leaders accountable.Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with experience building partnerships, delivering outstanding customer service, and ensuring alignment between stakeholder needs and business objectives.Demonstrated experience in fostering trust, encouraging innovation, and working collaboratively to achieve goals.Extensive experience in change management, able to navigate ambiguity, assess risks and opportunities, and deliver high-quality outcomes in large, complex organisations.Proven ability to anticipate and manage challenges, with a focus on evaluating risks and opportunities when making strategic decisions and overcoming setbacks.Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritise competing demands, and a commitment to professional behaviour in a team environment.For full details about this role please review the Position Description.
Eligibility
Applications for this position are open to Australian/New Zealand Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents or you must either hold, or be able to obtain, a valid working visa for the duration of the specified term.
Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.
Regular travel between CSIRO sites, including metropolitan and regional areas, will be required of the successful candidate in this role.
