The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system.The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 475 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.
Full Time, Fixed Term – 12 Months. The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has an opportunity for a highly motivated leader to join our organisation as a Social Work Team Leader within our Victims and Witness Assistance Services Team.
Successful incumbent will provide operational leadership and professional supervision to a small team of Social Workers based in a Trial Division.
About the Social Worker Role: Supervise and support to a small team of social workers within a Trial Division and support them on a day-to-day basis to meet the operational requirements of the Office.Ensure adequate planning to optimise staffing and other resources, to ensure referral and support needs are met and cases are managed appropriately through the prosecution process.Cooperate with solicitors and other stakeholders, to ensure victims and witnesses are well informed and prepared for court hearings and criminal justice processes.As our ideal candidate you will have: Strong ability to supervise, engage and motivate a small group of social workers, and provide professional supervision as required.Demonstrated ability and experience in working with grief, loss and trauma, in particular a deep understanding of the impact of sexual assault on adults and children.Extensive case management experience which including providing assistance, information and referral to clients in complex cases.Relevant Knowledge and Experience: A qualification in social work, psychology or a related discipline and a valid Victorian driver's licence is essential.For further information, please refer to the attached Position Description.
