Join our Higher Court Appeals (HCA) team, where your expertise will be at the forefront of managing appeals to the Court of Appeal, High Court, and Supreme Court.
About the role In this pivotal role, you'll primarily prepare and oversee complex appeals arising from the Lawyer X matters, while providing legal analysis and strategic recommendations. Beyond legal expertise, you'll support and collaborate with the Manager, Higher Court Appeals (Special Project), playing a key role in fostering professionalism, respect, and a positive team culture.
Based in Melbourne, this role offers the chance to contribute to some of the most complex and high-profile legal matters in the state.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the preparation and instruction of complex criminal and civil appeals across appellate courts, including the Court of Appeal, High Court, and Supreme Court.Ensure appeals and reviews are expertly managed, with timely briefing of counsel and efficient presentation before the courts.Conduct in-depth legal research, with some opportunities to draft submissions, and appear in directions hearings. You will also provide expert advice and recommendations on sentences and decisions.Mentor and develop junior staff through training and guidance, while identifying opportunities to enhance processes and address emerging challenges.About You You're an experienced solicitor who thrives on tackling challenging appeals and supporting your team to grow and succeed. You bring a thoughtful, proactive approach and are passionate about working collaboratively in a respectful and professional environment.
