Local Land Services (LLS) is an Executive Agency within the Department of Regional NSW. It provides quality, customer-focused services to landholders and the community across New South Wales. This regionally based organisation brings together a wide range of service and advisory functions including agriculture, biosecurity, natural resource management, land management, biodiversity, emergency services, private native forestry and management of Travelling Stock Reserves (TSR).
We are committed to making a real difference within the local community, and we are seeking to find high achievers within our community to help us with our future expansions. You will be part of a highly respected team that values its employees and their input.
About the role
This role will lead the delivery of two Natural Heritage Trust funded NRM projects: 'Healing Country in the Central Murray Ramsar' and 'Paddocks for Plains Wanderer'.
Healing Country in the Central Murray Ramsar focuses on preservation of the Central Murray Ramsar site in the Murray region, which is listed as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention for its significant contribution to the conservation of globally and nationally threatened species.
Through the Central Murray Ramsar 'Healing Country' project, the role will work closely with First Nations communities, public land managers and species experts to strengthen wetland resilience, connectivity and condition. The work undertaken aims to improve the condition of wetland vegetation and habitat by managing impacts from plant and animal species while supporting employment, skills and capacity of First Nations groups in the area.
Traditional Owners' ecological knowledge and community priorities are being incorporated into management of prioritised local wetland sites and significant and threatened species at the site.
Paddocks for Plains Wanderer staff will be working with private land managers and Threatened Species experts from NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to deliver integrated on-ground works which improve habitat conditions through grazing management initiatives and targeted pest control. These activities facilitate the release of captive-bred plains-wanderer chicks into the project area.
There is estimated to be only around 300 birds remaining in NSW and less than 1,000 in Australia, earning the listing of Critically Endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999.
You will be responsible for:
All aspects of project management, including coordination of budgets and reporting Managing staff working on the projects Working with and supporting First Nations groups and key land manager stakeholders involved in the project Collecting and collating data, analysing information and providing accurate and appropriately balanced advice, reports and recommendations on delivery of natural resource management activities Building partnerships and supporting collaboration to address natural resource management issues Support emergency management by assisting with activities to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies The ideal candidates will have:
