As the Senior Regulatory Advisor – Wholesale Energy , you will be pivotal in managing and navigating the regulatory framework that governs the wholesale energy market. Your expertise will ensure compliance with existing regulations and influence future policy developments. This role demands a deep understanding of regulatory environments and a strategic mindset to guide the company through complex regulatory landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Implement Regulatory Strategies:
Formulate comprehensive strategies to align with regulatory requirements and company objectives. Develop long-term regulatory plans that support business growth and innovation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate regulatory strategies into business operations.
Monitor and Interpret Regulatory Changes:
Continuously track and analyse changes in energy regulations to assess impacts on the business. Keep the organisation informed about upcoming regulatory changes and their potential effects. Develop internal reports and briefs on regulatory developments for senior management.
Advise on Compliance:
Provide expert advice on regulatory compliance issues and ensure all activities adhere to relevant regulations. Develop and implement compliance programmes and procedures. Conduct regular compliance audits and reviews to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
Liaise with Regulatory Bodies:
Establish and maintain relationships with key regulatory agencies and stakeholders to represent the company's interests. Participate in regulatory meetings, consultations, and hearings. Submit company positions and feedback on proposed regulatory changes.
Conduct Regulatory Risk Assessments:
Identify potential regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies to address these risks effectively. Conduct scenario analysis and impact assessments for regulatory risks. Implement risk management frameworks and tools to monitor and mitigate regulatory risks.
Prepare and Submit Regulatory Reports:
Oversee the preparation and submission of detailed regulatory reports in compliance with statutory requirements. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all regulatory filings. Maintain records of all regulatory submissions and correspondence.
Represent Company in Regulatory Forums:
Act as the company's representative in industry forums and regulatory discussions, advocating for favourable policies. Engage with industry groups and associations to stay abreast of regulatory trends. Present company views and negotiate on regulatory matters in public and private forums.
Analyse Regulatory Developments:
Conduct in-depth analyses of regulatory developments and their potential impact on the wholesale energy market. Develop strategic recommendations based on regulatory analysis. Prepare detailed reports and presentations on regulatory impacts for internal stakeholders.
Coordinate Regulatory Audits and Inspections:
Manage and facilitate regulatory audits and inspections, ensuring all necessary documentation and processes are in place. Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory auditors and inspectors. Develop action plans to address any findings or recommendations from audits.
Develop Regulatory Training Programmes:
Create and deliver training programmes to educate internal teams on regulatory compliance and best practices. Develop training materials and resources to support compliance initiatives. Monitor the effectiveness of training programmes and update them as needed.
Support Policy Advocacy Initiatives:
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support policy advocacy and regulatory reform initiatives. Develop advocacy strategies to influence regulatory policies and frameworks. Draft position papers, policy briefs, and advocacy documents.
Provide Strategic Advice to Management:
Offer strategic regulatory advice to senior management to inform business decisions and strategies. Participate in strategic planning sessions to provide regulatory insights. Prepare briefings and reports for executive leadership on regulatory issues.
Manage Regulatory Documentation:
Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance of all regulatory documentation and records. Implement document management systems for regulatory records. Regularly review and update regulatory documentation to ensure compliance.
Collaborate on Regulatory Matters:
Work closely with legal, compliance, and operational teams to address regulatory issues and ensure cohesive strategies. Coordinate cross-functional efforts to address complex regulatory challenges. Provide regulatory input on project teams and working groups.
Lead Regulatory Projects:
Lead and manage regulatory projects and initiatives from inception to completion, ensuring timely and successful outcomes. Develop project plans, timelines, and deliverables for regulatory initiatives. Monitor project progress and adjust plans as necessary to achieve objectives.
Qualifications and Person Description:
Educational Background
Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Economics, or a related field. A Master's degree or further qualifications in regulatory affairs or energy policy is advantageous.
Experience:
Extensive experience in regulatory affairs, preferably within the energy sector, with a strong understanding of wholesale energy markets. Proven track record of developing and implementing regulatory strategies and managing compliance programmes.
Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of energy regulations and policies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with regulatory bodies and stakeholders. Strategic thinking and the ability to provide high-level advice and insights. Project management skills, with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
