This position will provide specialist planning advice and lead and support the delivery of moderate-to complex sustainability, environmental, climate change and carbon planning projects and services to meet the needs of the organization and the community within the region!
Responsibilities & Outcomes As a Senior Planner - Sustainability and member of the Environment and Sustainability Policy and Planning department you will: Act as a technical specialist and provide guidance and support to team members in the delivery of sustainability planning and scientific services to drive integrated sustainability and climate change mitigation outcomes across the region and within the MBRC organization Provide specialist advice in environmental and sustainability planning matters in accordance with legislative, policy and business requirements.
Lead and support the delivery of moderate-to-complex environmental and sustainability planning projects and specialist project teams (including external consultants) to achieve strategic and business outcomes.
Support the development of team capability to drive a high performance, continuous improvement and customer focused culture.
Provide specialist technical input into the development, integration and implementation of key strategies and policy relating to sustainability, climate change, carbon emissions reduction and other planning initiatives.
Support project-based community consultation including representing Council at a range of customer meetings, community and business forums.
Build strong relationships across a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects and service deliverables are achieved.
Act as a department delegate and advocate on a variety of projects, providing a source of professional advice to key stakeholders Knowledge & Experience Considerable knowledge and experience in either environmental planning, sustainability, climate change, strategic planning.
Considerable experience in the delivery of moderate-to-complex environmental and sustainability planning projects, including leading and mentoring multi-disciplinary project-based teams.
Ability to drive high performance outcomes in time critical environments with competing stakeholder interests.
Considerable experience in project management and associated risk assessment and management practices.
Substantial experience in applying relevant federal, state and local government legislation and environmental and sustainability planning principles and practices.
Substantial experience providing specialist advice and recommendations on strategy and policy on sustainability, climate change and carbon emissions reduction planning matters.
Ability to lead and support projects and teams in response to changes in direction in uncertain or emergent circumstances and in a rapidly changing policy environment.
Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate complex environmental planning concepts and matters in a simple and concise manner (both verbally and in written form) and negotiate safe, practicable and sustainable outcomes.
Considerable experience in stakeholder consultation and engagement associated with the delivery of moderate to complex environmental and sustainability projects.
