Please note this position is full-time and is therefore unlikely to be suitable for university students.
CAL is the AFP's in-house litigation practice responsible for proceeds of crime matters. CAL is part of the AFP-led Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce, which adopts a coordinated and proactive approach to the confiscation of assets related to Commonwealth crime. It brings together expertise in investigations, litigation, intelligence, forensic accounting and other specialist resources and representatives from key partner agencies including the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), Australian Border Force (ABF), and Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC). The aim of the taskforce is to enhance the identification of criminal assets and benefits derived from crime, and to pursue their confiscation.
As a Team Member in the AFP, you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?On a day-to-day basis, the Senior Paralegal is required to perform a range of duties in relation to general office management, litigation support, financial management, and administration. This includes:
Overseeing and undertaking various office-management tasks of a busy litigation practice.Providing guidance to junior paralegals and undertaking miscellaneous clerical duties.Drafting routine administrative correspondence.Coordinating with the Practice Management Team in relation to reporting and financial governance requirements of the Brisbane Office.Compiling court books and briefs to counsel.Preparing encumbrances to register court orders on title.Undertaking discrete/targeted legal research and preparing case notes/summaries of decisions.Essential RequirementsYou must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.Demonstrated experience as a paralegal or working in a legal office.Strong attention to detail.Positive service-delivery focus and friendly disposition.Strong oral and written communication skills.Additional InformationThis role is located in Brisbane, QLD and applicants are expected to be based in Brisbane.Selection CriteriaOrganising your work, making sound decisions and achieving outcomesCommunicating and working effectively with other peopleApplying technical knowledge, expertise and skillsApplicationPlease submit the following documents via our Jobs portal prior to the closing date and time:
