The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. The Senior Operations & Response Officer is responsible for the program management and strategic support/implementation for various policy, business, and information technology systems. These systems are essential for the department to monitor, coordinate, and report on its emergency management obligations.
The primary focus of this is to ensure the Emergency Managment Information Technology System (EMITS) and other emergency management information and intelligence systems functionality supports and enables the real time capture and use of intelligence and information to enable a common operating picture for decision makers to make accurate and informed decisions based on situational awareness.
The role also contributes to planning and strategies aimed at enhancing resilience to disruptions in essential services, ensuring that the department fulfills its responsibilities for critical planning, preparedness, and infrastructure activities as mandated by the Emergency Management Act 2013.

How you'll make a difference: Ensure software and systems for operations and response in the State Emergency Management Centre (EMC) and across secondary EMC locations are ready and functional - including contingency capability to be useable in an emergency.Ensure Public Alerting and Warning systems are always ready and functional.Develop and implement ICT and interoperability strategies.Ensure EMITS and other emergency management information and intelligence systems functionality supports and enables the real time capture and use of intelligence and information to ensure a common operating picture for decision makers to make accurate and informed decisions based on situational awareness.Provide advice on the implementation of policy and operational practice and procedures in emergency management.Lead consultative processes across the department and health sectors to assist in building capability and capacity on emergency management.Establish and implement standardised operational models for responding to emergencies (State Operations) including working with business and information management systems (including information technology models, web-based products, telecommunications and other technology systems).Assist with the implementation of guidelines, procedures, systems and standardised practices for emergency operations.Research and review other organisations within and external to the State with the intent of establishing best operational practice.To learn more please click 'Apply' to view the Position Description on the Careers.vic website.
