Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
The opportunity This is a permanent site-based position for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Operational Optimisation Department, working on a Full-time 8 days on and 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth.
This newly created position, reporting to the Principal Engineer, is responsible for on-site improvement projects, conducting inspections and developing maintenance and repair plans.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential: Recognised Degree qualification in Mechanical EngineeringWA "C" Class manual driver's licenceMinimum 5 years' mining experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing)Experience working with a variety of equipment such as; conveyors, slurry pumps, crushers (gyratory and cone), high-pressure grind rolls, ball mills, tower mills, magnetic separatorsDemonstrable success in applying engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementing processesFamiliarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Whys work process methods and toolsUnderstanding of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic testing, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologiesPractical statistical analysis skills including failure statistics, failure rates, hazard rates, and life expectancyWell-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detailNational Police ClearanceTo be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia. Key Duties (but not limited to):
Collaboration with maintenance and operations teams to provide engineering support aimed at improving equipment reliability, thereby achieving operational targets for cost, production, and safetyEnsuring that all work conducted by the Mechanical Maintenance and Engineering Department adheres to KML site standards, regulatory and statutory requirements, and relevant Australian standardsTroubleshooting, diagnosis, fault finding, and providing technical engineering advice, ensuring issues are resolved safely and promptly to maximize availability and production outcomesAbout Karara Mining Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
