Exciting Permanant Full-Time Opportunity based in Brisbane CBD.
Reporting to the Principal Lawyer and Senior Principal Lawyer, your role will be responsible to work on allocated legal requests collaboratively with clients and collegiately with other lawyers (including briefing of external lawyers), within client agreed time frames.
You will be able to communicate effectively, clearly and succinctly with a diverse client group, in a variety of settings, with legal accuracy and a practical, fit for purpose, customer focus. The successful applicant should be able to prioritise workload in accordance with client agreed timeframes and overall Legal Branch objectives, recognising that legal tasks may need to be completed urgently.
You will also engage in thought leadership and training for other members of the legal branch, HHSs and clients, including sharing expertise and to update developments in the law. A senior lawyer will be expected to develop and maintainpositive relationships, build appropriate networks and mentor other members of Legal Branch including paralegals and junior lawyers.
While there will be an opportunity to focus on targeted areas of law, lawyers will be required to show initiative and be prepared to undertake a diverse range of legal work reflective of the dynamic and changing operational needs of the Legal Branch.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self-development, including:
Achievement of CPD points (including the minimum required for maintaining a practising certificate with the Queensland Law Society); andQueensland Health's performance management and development framework and any feedback processes.You must also comply with relevant directives, policies and standards including:Legal Branch Client Charter; andapplicable Queensland Health policy framework documents.The successful person You will have demonstrated:
Minimum 5 years post admission or post legal qualification experienceExperience in one or more of the following key legal practice areas (the highlighted areas are the focus for this recruitment but successful applicants will be required to assist the workload of other streams from time to time):Litigation in Courts and Tribunals, alternative dispute resolution, commissions of inquiry and coronial inquestsPublic and administrative law, human rights, health regulatory, and knowledge of the Queensland Health portfolio legislationWorkplace, industrial relations and WHSHealth and other information management (including confidentiality, privacy and information access schemes)Corporate and commercial law (including contract drafting and negotiation; procurement; ICT; clinical research; IP; construction; infrastructure and other major projects; joint venture advisory; property; funding; insurance)About us Queensland Health is responsible for the overall management of the public health system in Queensland. Legal Branch forms part of the Corporate Services Division within Queensland Health and is responsible for providing legal services to the Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women, the office of Director General and Deputy Directors General and other departmental offices and business units.
