The People Policy team sits within the broader Workplace Relations team in the People Services branch and is responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of a range of people and employment related services that support the workforce, HR partners and Senior Executive.
The People Policy team manages the governance for the People Services branch, ensuring the material is clear and concise and supports the AFP's employment framework by guiding consistent and fair decision-making.
As a Senior HR Policy Officer within our team, you will offer valuable expertise and specialist advice to AFP leaders and employees, ensuring a proactive and effective management of employee relations risks throughout the organisation.
A primary component of this role involves analysing and interpreting Commonwealth legislation and AFP employment frameworks and principles, AFP HR governance, as well as leading engagement with key internal and external stakeholders and steering strategic initiatives.
These integral roles require extensive collaboration across the organisation, while working closely with your peers to foster a harmonious and risk-aware work environment, which in turn assists in shaping the strategic direction of the AFP.
We are looking for suitably qualified Senior HR Policy Officer (AFP Band 6) to fill current vacancies within our team.
A merit pool will also be created to fill any other vacancies that arise at this level within the People Policy team over the next 12 months.
What will you do? Responsibilities of the role includes, but are not limited to:
Driving the development of HR policies and guidelines.Interpreting and applying contemporary HR theory, frameworks, principles, policies, and practice in the workplace.Undertaking research and analysis.Demonstrating excellent writing skills and an understanding of the importance of style and presentation.Demonstrating strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.Utilising project management skills to track, record and report on progress.Additional work you will be required to take on as a Senior HR Policy Officer includes:
Supporting the creation and maintenance of a harmonious and resilient team environment, constantly in pursuit of continuous improvement.Mentoring and developing team members.Applying your skills across more complex matters.Representing the branch at internal and external forums.Leading the development of projects, policies, and guidelines.About you: Our ideal candidate(s) would have the following experience and attributes:
Demonstrated prior experience in a HR role or HR Policy team.The ability to self-direct and proactively navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, work to tight deadlines and a demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.The ability to quickly develop and maintain strong working relationships and appropriately respond to the needs of stakeholders at various levels.Clearly demonstrate a sound ability to communicate with influence, including good oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.The ability to convey messages effectively across multiple audiences, including the Senior Executive, and exercising discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.Relevant work experience (2 years minimum) in a HR role or HR Policy team.The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Tertiary qualifications in relevant field or progress towards this outcome.Additional Information The role is Canberra-based, however remote working arrangements may be negotiated by suitable candidates who are currently based in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide.
