About the Role Frontend engineers in the Photo Effects Team are highly product-focussed and driven to build the best possible user experience.
Their specialty covers both traditional frontend engineering and software architecture, and also graphics programming.
In this role you'll be helping build and improve our photo editing tools, including core photo editing features like adjustments, AI powered visual tools, and powerful graphics effects.
Photo editing is essential in fulfilling Canva's mission to 'empower the world to design' by making photo editing accessible to everyone, no matter the device or level of experience.
You'll be responsible for writing high quality, performant frontend code, as well as designing new features so that they are reliable, scalable, and easy to extend.
This may involve integration with state-of-the-art Visual AI tools, unique frontend interactions, or GPU-accelerated graphics effects.
Required: Commercial experience with designing and building commercial web applications, ideally in TypeScript, React, and MobX Knowledge of CI/CD patterns and different testing techniques to write highly reliable code Experience working collaboratively in a cross-functional team Excellent written & verbal communication Preferred: Experience with or a strong interest to learn and apply low-level browser APIs such as WebGL, WebGPU and WebAssembly to solve real-time graphics engineering challenges.
Experience with and/or desire to learn topics such as 3D rendering, image processing, linear algebra, calculus, and color theory.
Responsiblitiles: You will work with others (product, design, data) in the team to design and build high quality, performant and accessible photo editing features that synergise with existing features to enhance the designing experience for users.
