About the role
Melbourne & Olympic Parks (M&OP) is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Event Manager to lead the planning and delivery of world-class events at M&OP's truly multi-purpose venue, John Cain Arena (JCA).
Reporting to the Venue Manager - John Cain Arena, this leadership role is central to driving innovation, fostering team growth, and ensuring the seamless execution of events that delight guests and stakeholders alike.
As a pivotal member of John Cain Arena's leadership team, you will lead and mentor a talented events team, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and oversee all aspects of event delivery - from operational planning and risk management to enhancing customer experiences.
With a focus on excellence, safety, and innovation, you'll play a critical role in supporting M&OP's vision of being a thriving precinct, committed to delivering exceptional events for every person, every time.
What you'll have the opportunity to be involved in Venue & Event Diversity Be part of a team within a precinct and venue that delivers some of Melbourne's most iconic events such as the Australian Open, National Basketball League, Super Netball and a wide selection of live music and entertainment.Leadership & Team Capability Lead, mentor, and inspire the events team (Event Manager, Coordinator) to deliver outstanding results, fostering a culture of growth, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Actively collaborate with the Venue Manager and Operations Manager to drive team performance and innovation.Event Delivery & Planning Oversee the seamless delivery of all events at JCA ensuring all operational, safety, and risk management plans are met.Take on the role of Duty Event Manager or Chief Warden when required, ensuring the safety and security of all attendees.Stakeholder Management & Development Build and maintain strong relationships with key sporting tenants (e.g., Melbourne United, Melbourne Vixens) and entertainment clients, alongside catering, security, ticketing, cleaning, and emergency services teams.Customer Experience Ensure all events provide exceptional customer experiences for both clients and guests, emphasizing operational efficiency and venue presentation.Commercial Management of Events Manage event budgets effectively, optimizing financial outcomes while balancing stakeholder needs and operational priorities.What you will bring to the role Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, fostering a culturally safe and collaborative environment that promotes high performance and teamwork.Event Planning & Delivery: Extensive experience in planning and delivering professional sporting and/or international entertainment events, particularly in multi-purpose or stadium environments.Stakeholder Relationship Management: Proven capability in building and maintaining positive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, especially within the sport and entertainment industries.Customer Experience Innovation: A track record of creating world-class customer experiences, with a focus on innovation, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.Risk, Security & Emergency Management: Expertise in managing risk, security, and emergency protocols for professional sporting and entertainment events, with Chief Warden experience preferred.Multitasking & Operational Efficiency: Proven ability to manage multiple, often competing priorities effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced operational environment.Desirable:
>> National & International Events Expertise: Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering national and international sporting events, as well as collaborating with national and international entertainment promoters.
