About the role We are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer – Connections Planning to join the Major Connections Planning team.
This role can be based anywhere within Essential Energy's operational footprint in NSW.
The Senior Engineer – Connections Planning is responsible for leading the technical assessment of the connection of embedded generation and large customers to the Essential Energy network in accordance with Essential Energy Connection Policies and the National Electricity Rules.
Responsibilities: Lead the technical assessment, due-diligence and verification of compliance of subsystems connecting to the Subtransmission network, including, but not limited to, generators, storage systems and large loads via modelling and data analysis, including the development of solutions for remediation or network strengthening, to ensure the viability of proposed connection Responsible for scoping and execution of engineering studies for purposes of evaluating the impact of complex connections to the capability and operation of Essential Energy network according to Essential Energy policies and procedure and provisions of the National Electricity Rules Provide oversight and conduct technical assessment of the impact of new connections on network capability and system stability.
This will include the proposing of solutions for remediation or network strengthening, to ensure the viability of proposed connection.
Work closely with internal stakeholders in defining requirements for operation and acceptable performance standards of embedded generations, storage systems and the introduction of large loads into the network About You In order to be successful in this position, you will possess: Demonstrated experience in utilising analytical tools and technical knowledge to provide viable solutions to power systems problems Advanced knowledge and experience in applying power system modelling tools for technical studies including but not limited to steady-state, post-contingency steady-state, transient stability and electromagnetic transient (Sincal/PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS/E) Significant experience with the analysis and planning of transmission or distribution networks Advanced knowledge of National Electricity Rules and AEMO guidelines.Recognise and rectify unplanned events of a critical nature and utilise essential knowledge and associated skills to provide timely resolutions Ability to conciliate technical requirements and commercial outcomes Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to manage diverse and complex issues Required Qualifications Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent to satisfy Professional Engineer membership to the Institution of Engineers Australia.
Desirable Specialisation in power system engineering and analysis (Master's Degree favoured) Working knowledge of automation of analysis processes through scripting languages (Python, VBA).
