A subsection of the Victoria Police Cybercrime Squad, the Digital Forensic team specialise in forensic examination of computers, phones, and other data storage devices. Digital evidence is a key component of almost every investigation into serious criminal offending and the digital forensics team play a vital role in extracting, interpreting, and presenting this evidence. FO4 Senior Digital Forensic Officers undertake routine and complex computer and phone examinations, research tasks and mentoring of junior staff, as well as providing expert evidence in court where required.The Digital Forensic team sits within Victoria Police's Crime Command and provides Victoria Police with a specialist crime investigation capability involving digital evidence. The team maintain up to date expertise in modern trends, technologies, and advances in the digital forensic environment.This role may require some work outside of standard business hours, including some early morning starts.Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace and supports flexible working arrangements.Your duties will include:Assisting investigators with the search, seizure, and preservation of digital evidence.Extracting data from a variety of digital devices, including mobile phones, computers, storage devices, networked equipment, and cloud services.Providing clear and concise specialist digital forensic advice.Researching and assisting in the development of phone and computer forensic investigation tools and methodologies.Managing evidence items in accordance with Cybercrime Squad and Victoria Police policies.Providing digital forensic expertise at search warrant execution sites and crime scenes.About You:The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:An interest in working in law enforcement and a passion for digital forensics.Comprehensive technical experience and knowledge of computing technology, with experience in computer and/or phone forensics preferred.Relevant tertiary studies or relevant industry certifications are highly desirable.Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills.Experience providing clear and accurate advice to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Highly developed attention to detail.A willingness to participate in office well-being sessions due to the crime theme and child abuse material you will be exposed to.Further Information:This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.The successful applicant will be required to attend warrant execution sites throughout Victoria or work at different locations to assist in policing operations. Warrant executions can occur outside normal business hours, depending on operational needs.The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.
