About the team
The Internal Communication team is part of the Internal Communication and Creative Services team within the Communications Branch.
manages the department's internal communication requests
provides strategic communication advice to internal clients through an account management model
creates news stories and dynamic content for the intranet, digital boards and all staff emails
develops and executes communication strategies
supports internal events.
The opportunity
The Senior Communication Officer manages stakeholder relationships and business areas to deliver internal communications for their campaigns and projects by:
working independently, under limited supervision, to provide best-practice strategic communication advice and support to clients
creating and implementing internal communication strategies to support departmental priorities
taking responsibility for timely delivery of communication activities for account areas
creating accessible, clear and engaging content for internal audiences
contributing to team leadership and a positive culture
supporting the Assistant Manager in delivering the responsibilities of the team
working closely with our design and audio visual teams to deliver communication solutions for internal clients to deliver comprehensive and engaging products
Managing and/or mentoring staff.

Desirable skills and experience:
tertiary qualifications in the communication field
account management experience
an understanding of government accessibility requirements and writing to the standard of the government style manual
What you will do
work collaboratively with our internal clients to develop and execute comprehensive, fit-for-purpose internal communication strategies
write, edit and manage content for our internal communication channels including the department intranet, digital boards and videos that support departmental business objectives
mentor and build capability among team members
work well, within a team, to manage multiple strategies at any given time
ensure integrity through accuracy and consistency of messaging, responsiveness, timeliness, and quality output.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
