Senior Advisor, Policy and Stakeholder RelationsStandBy is Australia's leading suicide postvention program dedicated to assisting people and communities bereaved or impacted by suicide. StandBy builds community preparedness and resilience through extensive training to community and professional groups to ensure effectiveness and that duplicated effort is avoided.
The program offers coordinated evidence-based support and resources (including connections to local services and groups) that is individualised for each person's unique circumstance.
StandBy is guided by local advisory groups – which includes community stakeholders as well as those with Lived Experience.
About Youturn Youturn is a not-for-profit organisation that started in 1989 to help address youth homelessness in Noosa.
Since then, the organisation has grown and evolved, and now provides health and social services to over 6,000 young people and their families annually, to assist them in achieving their full potential.
You'll find out more about Youturn at www.youturn.org.au. The Opportunity The Senior Advisor, Policy and Stakeholder Relations role will play a crucial part in advancing StandBy Support after Suicide's mission by mapping stakeholders, trends, and policies at both state and national levels.
This role is designed to enhance the organisation's strategic influence, prepare pre-budget submissions, and support the development of content for publications and media releases.
The role requires you to have a strong understanding of the mental health or suicide prevention sector and a strong political acumen with the ability to navigate political environments and processes effectively.
This is a 12-month max term position with possibility of extension. This role is to be based at our Maroochydore office or could be flexibly located at another site. Key Responsibilities Identify and map key stakeholders within the mental health and suicide prevention and postvention sectors at state and national levels.Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organisations, and advocacy groups.Facilitate stakeholder meetings, consultations, and engagement activities to gather insights and foster collaboration.Monitor and analyse trends and policies related to mental health, suicide prevention and postvention.Prepare detailed reports and briefs on relevant policy developments and their implications for the StandBy program.Support the development of policy positions and advocacy strategies.Coordinate the preparation of pre-budget submissions to demonstrate impact to governments.Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather data, insights, and recommendations for submissions.Selection Criteria A tertiary qualification in health, policy, communications or a related field.Demonstrated experience in policy analysis and development within the mental health or suicide prevention or postvention sector.Ability to monitor and interpret relevant trends, policies, and legislative developments at state and national levels.Proven ability to identify, map, and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organisations, advocacy groups, and community representatives.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships.Experience in developing and implementing advocacy strategies to influence public policy and funding priorities.Ability to prepare persuasive pre-budget submissions and other advocacy documents.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling and accurate content for publications, reports, and media releases.Experience working with media and public communications, including drafting media releases and responding to media inquiries.Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities effectively.Experience in planning and coordinating activities, projects, and events within a complex environment.If you have the skills, experience and passion to fit our team, please take the next step and submit your resume and cover letter addressing the selection criteria.
