What You'll do (the role)
Summary
The APAC Energy Markets team plays a critical role in originating, negotiating, and securing contracts to manage revenue streams for LSbp's projects and develop strategies to optimize the generation portfolio within the APAC region. As the Senior Analyst, Power Markets, you will work closely with the Energy Markets Team to:
Deliver regular, and ad hoc, market and regulatory analysis and insights
Ensure accuracy of modelling
Inform the market strategy and evaluate market opportunities for LSbp's assets (e.g., pool price analysis in APAC markets, investigating and reporting on market events, competitor analysis, evaluating hedging products)
Support the team in evaluating PPA opportunities and deliver ad hoc projects
The individual will have the opportunity to obtain a deep commercial and financial understanding of renewable energy development, energy storage and energy markets and gain valuable insight into the commercial strategies employed in maximizing revenue streams from renewable generation.
Duties and responsibilities
Market price, fundamentals and policy analysis
Co-ordinate and own day-to-day analysis and regular reporting on market prices, market fundamentals and changes, and policy developments
Use analysis to deliver market insights to support energy marketing activity
Evaluate the impact of potential new policy developments on market conditions and pricing
Manage and improve access to market data and information, including use of external vendor software
Produce ad-hoc reports and analysis for the Energy Markets team as required to support PPA opportunities, new market entry, and for internal reporting
Forecasting and modelling
Co-ordinate quarterly price forecast updates and project-specific analysis as needed including reviewing and communicating results, managing inputs and engagement with third party advisers and in-house users of forecasts.
Assist in the analysis of asset hedging strategies including utilizing financial models and reporting results.
Ensure consistency and accuracy of in-house assumptions for modelling and price forecasting, working cross-functionally as required.
Portfolio Reporting
Oversee the position reporting activities for the portfolio, including the production of reports
Develop presentations on market conditions, hedge strategy performance and position management as required
Work cross-functionally to align inputs with settlements and other users of energy markets data
New Markets
Conduct research and presentations on market drivers and policy conditions and opportunities in the new APAC markets
Support the evaluation of PPAs and revenue opportunities in new markets
Co-ordinate price forecasting related to new markets, including the utilization of external advisers
Who we're looking for
Knowledge & Experience
Experience in Australian energy markets (primarily NEM, with experience in the WEM and other APAC markets a bonus) and an interest in evolving energy markets
Experience with Wind, Solar or BESS, or in a commodities trading environment
Previous experience in an analysis focused role.
A genuine interest in energy market dynamics and the desire to understand the 'why'
Numerate and with an advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint (experience with Power BI a bonus)
Qualifications
University qualified with a commercial, mathematics or engineering degree advantageous.
