Safety Specialist

Details of the offer

Position Overview
Reporting to the Safety Superintendent, the Work Health and Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in driving a shift in safety performance as well as supporting operations to achieve safety excellence by influencing, coaching, and working directly with the Front Line Leaders, Contracting Partners, and the broader workforce.
Key Responsibilities

Build capability amongst leaders and teams to achieve effective and efficient WHS outcomes.
Monitor and assess environmental procedures, equipment, and installations on a regular basis to ensure an acceptable risk level.
Implement any required Risk Management and Management Change strategies in line with the company and legislative requirements.
Facilitate WHS training within operations to support effective implementation of systems as well as build capability within the operations.
Work closely with and support other team members and undertake other duties as required to deliver optimal WHS outcomes.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current WHS legislations and standards to provide relevant advice and support.
Provide timely and accurate advice and support towards WHS risk reduction and safe execution of work within the allocated business unit.
Coordinate and conduct hazard identification and risk assessments within the business where more complex tools are required.
Provide ongoing investigation, coaching, and leadership for safety professionals and line personnel to ensure outcomes are aligned with SIMEC mining investigations requirements.

Have the ability to work with people from all levels, be focused and results-oriented.
Be able to organize information, take action, and be highly autonomous with a sense of urgency.

Qualifications and Skills

Tertiary WHS Qualifications or suitable qualifications in a relevant discipline.
Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (preferable).
Strong communication (verbal and written) and critical thinking skills.
Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders and build effective working relationships.
Strong relationship management skills.
Ability to develop and manage health and safety management systems.
Experience in facilitating incident investigations and risk assessments.
Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk management, auditing, reporting, and investigation requirements.
