MTS are the proud operators and maintainers of the M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line with the new City section now operational.
We run a fully automated passenger railway – an Australian first.
We connect our customers to opportunities that matter to them while delivering the next generation of rail travel to Sydney.
With global expertise, we manage 51.5km of track and 21 stations, with a planned expansion into southwest Sydney.
About the Role This newly created role will support and partner with the business to implement the MTS Workplace Health & Safety strategy and facilitate implementation of the WHS Management System and processes for continuous improvement.
Reporting directly to the Head of Safety, Quality, Risk and Environment, this critical role is also responsible for promoting a safety culture, risk management and achieving safety objectives as set down in MTS KPIs, safety management systems, WHS legislation, Rail Safety National Law (RSNL) and other applicable contractual, regulatory, and statutory requirements under NSW legislation.
This role would suit a passionate and influential professional with a drive for leading change.
You will be a credible business partner who can build positive relationships across various stakeholders, underpinned with your impressive knowledge and experience in current workplace health and safety systems, policies and processes, and looking to foster a robust safety culture across the organisation.
Some of the key responsibilities include: Successfully contribute to the maintenance of MTS's Rail Safety accreditation, Safework NSW, and IPART obligations outlined through Rail and NSW Statutory and Regulatory bodies, municipal councils, and community stakeholders.Manage the set-up of MTS's Safety Standards and prepare MTS's safety reports and relevant submissions to internal and external stakeholders.Lead the development, implementation and ongoing management of safety, management systems and associated records.Initiate and drive continuous improvement of the safety and other relevant management systems including learning and development processes via regular audits, and trend analysis to better enable MTS to meet its legal and regulatory requirements, business objectives and KPIs.Lead the identification and management of safety risks, and employee competency risks, and manage incident response, investigations, and remediation for safety issues.Undertake efficient data analysis and reporting to support timely monitoring of legislative, regulatory and governance compliance, and performance results.Support compliance through audits against applicable legislation, management standards and rail transport operator compliance requirements.Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to further support the achievement of the MTS safety and worker competency requirements, including:Act as the primary liaison for third-party audits or compliance inspections.About You You'll play a pivotal role in strategic projects, creating effective communication methods across all levels, and guiding the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety culture at MTS.
As a proactive, resilient and self-driven individual, you will have extensive experience in the practical application of safety legislation, including the management of WHS from a risk-based perspective.
It is desirable to have a railway, heavy industry or manufacturing type background however not essential.
The role requires a Diploma of Work Health and Safety, Cert IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent qualification, and you must hold a current Australian Drivers license.
You'll maintain a strong onsite presence with the ability to build credibility and trust, as you develop collaborative relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to negate obstacles and achieve critical business outcomes and high-quality outputs.
You will bring your outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations, combined with highly developed computer literacy and experience in managing, using and maintaining computer-based administrative systems.
