An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer, Senior Research Officer or Research Assistant to join the Naik Lab, Immunology Division at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.About the PositionAn exciting opportunity is available to the join the Immunology Department for an MRFF-funded translational project to help bring personalised Dendritic Cell (DC) immunotherapy for the treatment of cancer to the clinic.The Immunology Division has developed ground-breaking approaches to generate specialised DCs at a scale necessary for clinical trials, and methods to arm them to specifically react against the tumour.Our goal is to convert our research findings to a GMP-ready protocol for use in a clinical trial within 2 years, in conjunction with collaborators at the Centre of Excellence in Cellular Immunotherapy at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
The appointee will be responsible for identifying and testing new approaches to improve DC numbers and purity using in vitro protocols for mouse and/or human cultures from haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.These will then be tested for functionality in in vitro (T cell activation, cytokine production) or in vivo (clearance of tumours in mouse models) of DC function.Selection Criteria
Personal qualities- PhD or equivalent experience- Excellent communication and collaboration with colleagues, working as part of a large team with a common goal- Impeccable record-keeping skills on ELNs- Self-motivation to meet and exceed the project's milestones- Intrinsically curious and driven to improve the scienceThe knowledge and skills required for this role will include mastery of at least three (3) of the below;- Long term mouse or human cell culture experience- Haematopoietic stem and progenitor cell biology and assays- Knowledge of the transcriptional, cytokine and other requirements for DC subtype generation- DC functional assays e.g.T cell activation and cytokine production- Murine tumour models- Experience with independent design and flexible setup of multi-parameter (>12) flow cytometry- Molecular biology skills including PCR, RNA-seq library preparation and next-gen sequencing- CRISPR, lentiviral and/or lipid nanoparticle gene delivery.Knowledge of or experience with GMP regulatory requirements for cell therapies- Proven track record of publications or delivery of project milestones
Terms of Appointment
This position is available for 2 years in a full time capacity.
Salary is Research Employee Research Employee Level A- B6 ($93,841 - $125,339) or Research Support Employee Level RSE- RSE 6 ($73,621 - $92,345) depending on experience.Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
