The Opportunity Joining forces with the Queensland Earth Observation Hub/SmartSat CRC Queensland Node, City of Gold Coast Council, GeoImage, and the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), you'll contribute to the groundbreaking project titled 'Calibration and validation of SAR and stereo/tri-stereo satellite data for assessing vegetation condition'. The project will compare on-ground BioCondition (standardised Qld Herbarium vegetation metrics) with aerial LiDAR, RGB and infra-red optical imagery, Tri-Stereo Optical satellite, and synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery, to assess the condition of vegetation within selected areas of the City of Gold Coast conservation estate. For more information, please visit us online School of Science, Technology and Engineering You will: make positive contributions to the research project; co-supervise honours students and candidates for higher degrees by research and develop a track record of publishing in quality refereed journals; analyse data to communicate research outcomes to both expert and lay audiences through publishing; and develop and maintaining strategic and productive partnerships, connections and relationships with people, groups and organisations at local, national and international levels. About you: You possess a positive and engaging demeanour, enabling excellence for research outcomes, colleagues and project partners. Your well-developed interpersonal skills and exceptional written and verbal communication allow you to successfully communicate research findings. You enjoy interdisciplinary research, collaborate cohesively and share your expertise to contribute to the ongoing success of research outcomes. To be successful you will possess: completion of a relevant doctoral qualification in Earth Observation and having experience in SAR data handling and analytics, stereo image analysis and experience as a researcher with a good number of publications; experience in the application of advanced EO analytics such as SAR/LiDAR for estimating vegetation biomass demonstrated with refereed publications; strong interest and proven skills in the discipline with the desire to conduct high quality science; research experience and potential including: refereed publications and other acknowledged research outputs that are discipline specific; expertise in securing internal and external funding (awarded over the last five years); previous esteem measures experience, such as keynote addresses or invitations to present, prizes and awards, committee/board membership etc; skilled in technology transfer activities; experienced in outreach activities (including engagement with external partners); and demonstrated experience supervising research students.
