Employment Type : Temporary Full Time Remuneration : - Hours Per Week : 38 Requisition ID : CAM22610 Where you'll be working Prince of Wales Anaesthesia provides anaesthesia services to the POWH and SCH. There are fourteen general operating theatres (adult and paediatric), a cardiac operating suite and a two theatre urology operating suite (including lithotripsy). There are multiple locations outside of theatres where anaesthesia support is provided to procedural and diagnostic work (e.g. radiology, cardiac catheter labs, endoscopy suite etc.). Anaesthesia is also very active in both teaching and research. Anaesthesia has eleven Fellow positions: nine in a wide range of Anaesthesia Services distributed between the POWH and SCH, one in Pain Medicine and one in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine (the latter two advertised & staffed separately). In practice all Anaesthesia Fellows work across both POWH and SCH. A wide range of options are available for the training of Provisional Fellows within the Department. The exact mix of duties is determined by negotiation and we tailor a year of high-quality clinical and non-clinical exposure suited to each individual. The general principles for a week of work are: two days of clinical work in an area of preferred interest for each Fellow, two days of further clinical work as required by the Department and a further day for research and development, administration, teaching and quality assurance activities. What you'll be doing The primary purpose of a Provisional Fellow in Anaesthetics is to provide advanced level anaesthetic practice in a complex clinical environment, whilst under supervision as part of the training of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Provisional Fellow are expected to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skills, including: anaesthesia and sedation regional anaesthesia airway management pain medicine perioperative medicine resuscitation trauma and crisis management This position offers an excellent program and pathway for senior trainees to transition into consultant practice. Special emphasis is placed on developing clinical autonomy, organisational skills and supervision of junior trainees. This position offers the opportunity to develop these skills in adult and paediatric anaesthesia (by mutual agreement). MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Meeting the ANZCA criteria (or equivalent) to fill a Provisional Fellow position or an advanced trainee who has successfully completed or is currently sitting the ANZCA Final examination (or equivalent). Demonstrated advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care. Demonstrated advanced communication skills, including the ability to convey, adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience Demonstrated advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Demonstrated advanced ability to remain calm and act constructively when faced with high pressure situations or unpredictable environments Demonstrated previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training and commitment to the after-hours and on call roster.
