A vacancy exists for a Cairns-based Project Officer to work in support of students who leave Torres Strait Island communities to access education opportunities in Cairns and who are in homestay arrangements. The position will be based at Trinity Bay State High School during term time and in Cairns Regional Office during term time. About The Role The successful applicant will work in partnership with Trinity Bay State High School in Cairns and other Cairns schools to identify students from the Torres Strait who have left their home communities to access educational opportunities and who are living in homestay arrangements. The Project Officer will assess the support needs and mechanisms currently in place for these students and their caregivers. They will work in partnership with school staff to implement appropriate mechanisms to monitor students in homestay placements in terms of their attendance and engagement, academic progress, and retention. The Project Officer will be required to prepare a detailed report back to the Queensland Department of Education Far North Queensland and other stakeholders at the end of the project period. About You The ideal candidate will possess: High quality oral and written communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills, especially as they relate to working with Torres Strait communities. A knowledge of the issues facing young people and their families who are living and being educated away from their home communities. Strong IT skills. The ability to work as part of a team but also work independently as required.
