The Department of Transport and Main Roads is seeking a highly motivated Project Officer within Northern District (Townsville).This role is within the Program Controls team reporting to the Finance Advisor.In this role you will ensure that financial tasks and reporting requirements for Northern District are provided in a professional, efficient and timely manner and in accordance with policy, procedure and legislative requirements.About The RoleAs the Project Officer in Northern District you are a vital team member and support to the Finance Advisor and the broader district.This is an exciting opportunity for you to expand on your existing finance knowledge and be renowned throughout the district as a knowledgeable and well-respected finance practitioner.About YouHighly motivated candidates with the ability to lead, influence and analyse are sought to join our district finance team.
You will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound financial business acumen, and the ability to guide others in the appropriate application of legislation and departmental policy.
With efficient decision-making abilities, you will make informed judgement and recommendations to key stakeholders and customers.Key Responsibilities Analysing financial data and undertaking financial reporting using the department's electronic financial systems (SAP), to assist with the monthly reporting processes, including identifying and researching anomalies in relevant cost centre accounts.Undertaking monitoring and reviewing activities across Northern District to ensure financial data integrity, compliance with internal control requirements, legislation and departmental policies, identifying opportunities for process improvements.Ensuring that timely creation and processing of purchase requisitions, purchase orders and invoices for the procurement of departmental Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products and services, making efficient use of standing offer and contractual arrangements to maximise savings.Demonstrating an understanding of accounting concepts in relation to, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal completion and accrual accounting in accordance with financial legislative requirements.Assisting the Project Support Officer with review of employee expense claims in addition to reviewing overtime/ETT/TOIL claims for the district and providing advice on reimbursement of professional fees.Assist with cost centre reporting to ensure accurate tracking, and to indicate the overall financial position and provide early warnings of deviations.
This includes preparing general ledger reconciliations after end of month and posting any journals or accruals.Run missing timesheets report on a monthly basis and prepare district recoveries report after end of month for manager/TL review.Facilitate the "hiring" of new contractors under GGS0060 Temporary and Contracted Workers Preferred Supplier Panel (PSP) to Fieldglass which includes creating/updating job postings, work orders, and shortlisting successful candidates in the platform.Conducting annual stocktake for the district including useful life review and retirement of assets.Knowledge of financial Acts and Regulations would be highly regarded to successfully carry out this role.What We Offer Generous employer superannuation contribution - up to 12.75%.5 weeks annual recreational leave, plus leave loading.Ongoing training and development opportunities.Flexible Working options.Wellbeing initiatives including Employee Assistance Program.Salary packaging arrangements.At Transport and Main Roads, we celebrate diversity in creating a workplace culture that is built on respect, dignity, and fairness.
