The role
The role involves leading and managing a team of planning and scheduling specialists to support a growing portfolio of ICT programs and projects.
The incumbent will be responsible for providing a facilitated planning and scheduling service, overseeing the administration of project management tools, and collaborating with key stakeholders to optimize team workload and capacity.
This includes facilitating product-based planning workshops, developing product breakdown structures and flow diagrams, and managing people and output dependencies across programs.
The successful candidate will apply effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to interact with both internal and external customers, ensuring alignment and clarity in project objectives and execution.
Additionally, the role will drive continuous improvement in the delivery portfolio by enhancing scheduling frameworks, templates, and resource-based schedules, with a particular focus on critical paths.
The incumbent will coach and mentor teams, providing training in product-based planning and ensuring the organization's planning and scheduling practices mature.
The position also includes tracking and maintaining project dependencies, managing the performance and development of subordinate staff, and executing additional duties as directed by the Director of Queensland Virtual Hospital or the Executive Director of the Healthcare Improvement Unit.
The successful person
To excel in this position, you should have proven experience in managing planning and scheduling services within a complex ICT program and project setting.
You will also have a strong track record in facilitating planning workshops for programs and projects, working with a diverse range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority, and developing product breakdown structures and flow diagrams.
Moreover, you should possess demonstrated expertise in creating, maintaining, and managing project, program, and integrated portfolio schedules using MS Project Online.
This includes accounting for the critical path, key dependencies, and resource requirements to ensure successful delivery of project objectives as outlined in the business case.
Strong negotiation, consultation, facilitation, and communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential for success in this complex ICT environment.
