The National Museum of Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced creative professional to join the Programs business unit as a Program Coordinator to develop and coordinate the delivery of public programs. The Programs business unit develops and delivers a range of public programs, events, and activities connected to the Museum's vision, strategy, values, collections, and exhibitions. Designed to engage diverse audiences with opportunities for life-long learning, the Museum's program of high-quality, accessible programs aims to inspire, connect, and challenge audiences, building knowledge, curiosity, creativity, and empathy. The Programs team develops audience-focused activities through best practice models, research, and innovation, working in consultation and collaboration with colleagues across the Museum, as well as with external partners, stakeholders, professionals, and communities. Programs are primarily delivered at the Museum's Acton site, as well as throughout Australia and internationally, with an emphasis on online innovation. The opportunity comes as the Museum is delivering on a new Strategic Plan (2023–27) and developing a public engagement strategy to better engage audiences, onsite and online. The key duties of the position include: Contributing to the development, delivery, and evaluation of creative and interpretive programs and events for diverse audiences that effectively build audience engagement. This includes facilitating learning programs and developing resources for children and families. Coordinating projects through planning, production, promotion, event budget development and tracking, and risk management; as well as coordinating and supervising staff, volunteers, and contractors to support program delivery. Working within a small, dynamic team with an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, with autonomy and accountability for project delivery. Contributing to the development of programs to ensure they are aligned with the Museum's relevant policies and strategic priorities for learning and audience engagement. Contributing to the development of programs with a commitment to First Nations engagement, gender equity, cultural and linguistic diversity, and accessibility principles. Working collaboratively and in consultation with a diverse range of internal stakeholders (including curatorial, development, marketing, commercial, and visitor services) and externally with professionals and specialists, artists, community organizations, partners, and other cultural institutions. Supervising and developing lower classification levels, including building team capacity through mentoring and performance feedback. Contributing to business and strategic planning, budget management, reporting, grant applications, and partnership agreements and monitoring audience responses. Maintaining an awareness of current trends in programming both nationally and internationally to ensure that programs are responsive and innovative. Ensuring that you and your team members have sufficient supervision, instruction, and equipment to undertake your work safely and efficiently. Note: This position will require some work on weeknights, weekends, and public holidays. It may also involve some strenuous physical activity. Selection criteria Proven capacity to develop, coordinate, and deliver high-quality cultural and learning programs and resources for diverse audiences including adults, children, and families. Demonstrated project management skills and experience in the delivery of a range of programs and events. Experience working independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment and with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate with cultural audiences, stakeholders, and professionals from a range of backgrounds. Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of workplace diversity and equity, workplace relations and work health and safety, commitment to a child-safe and child-friendly environment, and the ability to apply these principles to contemporary work practices and visitor environments.
