About the role Position: Process Chemist Location: Spotswood, Melbourne, VIC Duration: 3 months casual contract Essential Criteria: 0-3 Years' ExperienceExperience in a manufacturing control laboratorySound working knowledge of general laboratory practices and proceduresA good understanding of scientific principles and an ability to apply these to the work environmentGood knowledge of computers and competent mathematical skillsExperience with quality records and Standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 17025)Formal tertiary qualification in a Science related field is necessary.Desirable Criteria: Sound knowledge of the lubricants manufacturing environment i.e.
procurement, blending, filling and packaging, and dispatch proceduresGood HSSE awareness applicable to laboratory operationsRequired Technical Duties: Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret resultsEffective communication skills both verbal and writtenAbility to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyWell organized and motivated self-starterAble to work with minimal supervisionWorks well under high pressure situationsMust display high degree of flexibilityStrong team player with the ability to relate to all levels in the work environmentA proactive approach to problem solving and an ability to apply such skills to solve production and quality related problemsDuties Include: Ensure that Raw Materials (additives and base oils), and lubricants manufactured and warehoused by the Facility are tested to the required technical specifications, GMP requirements and Quality Standards by effective utilization of current quality procedures and practices in accordance with the Quality, Environmental and Technical Management SystemsTesting and analysis of raw materials, finished oils, greases and specialty products (as applicable) using available testing equipment to achieve the specified level of quality controlProducts tested in a timely and cost efficient mannerEnsure non-conforming products are not released to the marketplaceUnderstanding of lubricant QC testing methodsProvide customers with C of A as required for manufactured and imported productsCommission and validate equipment, test methods and processes as requiredIssue accurate and timely blend sheets along with written instructionsLiaise with production to help overcome production related problems that may impact on product qualityProvide advice to production supervisors on blend and filling sequencing to maximise plant efficiency and minimise reworkProvide technical advice to Blending, Filling and Warehouse OperatorsExercise delegated authority to stop production to correct quality problemsAssist with root cause investigations on non-conforming blends and fillsAssist with the rework and disposal of obsolete and quarantined raw materials and finished productsAssist in maintaining the Quality, Environmental and Technical systemsManaging the appropriate document control so that quality records are controlled, maintained and easily retrievedEnsuring that laboratory equipment is calibrated in accordance with appropriate standards so that the accuracy of test results are guaranteedEnsuring that the NATA Accreditation is maintained and adhered toConduct internal audits and action items as requiredSupport Environmental initiativesMaintain Work Instructions for all Laboratory processesTesting samples relating to customer complaints and reporting test resultsProvide advice to the warehouse and production teams on technical queries to ensure that the end customers best interests are metEnsure procedures for new product introductions and formulation changes are followedUpdate and modify existing documentation in line with company requirementsDevelop new skills during busy transition period and special projects capital modificationsOnly candidates with the right to work in Australia will be considered.
