ABOUT THE ROLES
The Psychological Health Service is responsible for clinical assessment and intervention to prisoners who:
are at acute risk or suicide or self-harm; are at chronic risk of suicide or self-harm or otherwise vulnerable within the prison system; have mental health issues; are having difficulties coping, adjusting to prison, or in transition to release. Successful applicants may be appointed toone of two positions:
Prison Counsellor (general population):This role involves providing comprehensive counselling services to individuals in custody, addressing a wide range of psychological and emotional issues. The position focuses on enhancing the overall well-being of inmates through tailored support and interventions, fostering a positive and rehabilitative environment.
Prison Counsellor (AOD): A role for a counsellor,ideally with experience in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) counselling,to work as part of ateam supporting individuals on their recovery journey.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative new programme. The AOD Reintegration Service offers a comprehensive range of high-quality reintegration services, making a significant and positive impact on the lives of those affected by alcohol and other drugs. This role emphasises a person-centred approach and a collaborative working culture to achieve the best possible outcomes by providing counselling support for mental health and AOD issues.

ELIGIBILITY
An accredited qualification in Psychology and registration with the Psychology Board of Australia;OR A Tertiary qualification in Social Work and eligible for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers or the Society of Professional Social Workers and a minimum of two (2) years supervised practice in counselling Applicants found suitable but not recommended for this vacancy, may be considered for subsequent similar vacancies in the Department of Justice for a period of twelve (12) months, in accordance with Part 5 (General Appointment) of the Commissioner's Instructions No. 2: Filling a Public Sector Vacancy and Commissioner's Instructions No. 39: Interim Arrangements to Fill Public Sector Vacancies.
