Undertake a range of policy, planning and project management tasks to drive health sector reform for First Nations people and communities. Be a part of shaping a culturally safe, equitable and responsive health system to support First Nations people and communities.
Led by the Chief First Nations Officer, the First Nations Health Office co-designs, leads and advocates for a culturally safe, equitable and responsive health system to support First Nations peoples and communities to reach their full health potential and live long and healthy lives.
The Engagement and Monitoring Branch has a responsibility for engagement, including from a clinical perspective, internally within the Department, with Hospital and Health Services and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Sector to drive the implementation of targeted policies, strategies, and funded projects.
Our work focuses on Re-shaping the System to enable an environment that meets the needs of First Nations peoples and Transforming Care to ensure we have a connected health system that First Nations peoples will access, their way. To do this, we play a key role in identifying and understanding local and regional health issues and relationships, with goals of jointly influencing solutions and bringing better integrated care for First Nations peoples.
The role
The role of the Principal Policy and Planning Officer is to undertake a range of policy, planning (including health needs analysis and assessment) and project management tasks related to the evidence-based investment in health services aimed at improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.
Your key responsibilities
Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with QPS as outlined above and the Queensland Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework 2010-2033.
Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Provide high quality, comprehensive and timely advice to the Senior Director, Director and Manager on issues relating to the planning, delivery, performance and monitoring of health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Contribute to the development and delivery of Federal and State Government initiatives, strategies and programs associated with the National Cabinet Indigenous health reform agenda and the achievement of the national health targets.
Manage a range of programs and projects associated with the planning, purchasing and management of the Queensland Government's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health budget aimed at improving First Nations health outcomes.
Develop effective and productive working relationships with the 16 Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) and the non-government sector about the planning, purchase, delivery and performance of health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Represent the Department on inter-agency and inter-governmental committees and multidisciplinary working groups at national and state levels to progress Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues.
Work collaboratively with other relevant business areas across the department to ensure a coherent whole-of-agency response to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Prepare high quality reports, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence.
Project management ability within and across complex time-critical projects.
Undertake policy research, planning and needs assessment to determine emerging health needs, trends and issues to inform policy and investment decisions related to the purchase and commissioning of health services.
