Principal Policy Officer
Victim Assist Queensland (VAQ) is part of the Women's Safety and Victims and Community Support division within the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG).

VAQ provides assistance to victims of violent crime (including all forms of domestic and family violence) to help in the recovery of their injuries, in accordance with the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.

As the Principal Policy Officer, you will develop and provide policy advice, lead policy projects, and utilise data and performance information to achieve VAQ's objectives.

Job duration: Until 30 June 2025 with possible extension
Responsibilities:Undertake robust research and analysis to gather evidence and ensure an in-depth understanding of the problem and possible solutions.Provide policy advice on the impacts of proposed policy reform for VAQ.Develop and manage strategic policy projects through to implementation.Develop operational policies and procedures to guide consistent service delivery across VAQ.Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders on proposed reforms to provide policy advice that considers potential impacts on VAQ operations and develops strategies to support implementation.Consult with relevant statutory bodies, departments, non-government organisations, and community groups on policy matters to inform business and service delivery improvements.Develop and prepare a range of strategic and operational documents and reports as required including briefing papers, project plans, proposals, progress reports, submissions, and correspondence.Monitor and report on the status of projects to effectively manage project risks and issues to ensure successful project outcomes.Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by supervisory and management staff, adhering to professional standards and organisational objectives.Technical skills, abilities and cultural capability:Completes work on multiple policy projects simultaneously and performs well with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.Writes concise, logical, and grammatically correct reports.Sets priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job and responsibilities.Acts when answers to a problem are not readily apparent in ambiguous circumstances.Negotiates or exchanges ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs and/or arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions, or solutions.Organises material and information in a systematic way to optimise efficiency and minimise duplication of effort.Establishes rapport and gains trust of others, listens perceptively and conveys awareness.Contributes to workplace equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion that enriches our culture of respect and inclusion.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
