Are you an experienced and skilled professional looking for a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the efficient and effective governance of Mackay Regional Council? We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as Principal Internal Auditor.
About this Opportunity:
The Principal Internal Auditor works closely with the CEO and is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations, identifying financial and operational risks, and finding opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Performing independent audits across various departments and programs within the local government. Evaluating compliance with regulations and policies, scrutinising financial data, and identifying potential irregularities or discrepancies. Identifying and assessing financial and operational risks while pinpointing opportunities for enhancing operational efficiency. Developing risk-based audit plans and strategies to prioritise and effectively execute audit activities. Producing comprehensive audit reports, working with management to implement necessary improvements, and enhancing our financial management practices. Staying current with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards to maintain compliance and ensure audit excellence. Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
Bachelor of Business/Commerce/Accounting or related qualification. QLD "C" Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent (desirable). Significant experience in internal and/or external audit. Extensive knowledge of modern internal audit concepts, techniques, and the standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. Proven experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships. Demonstrated ability to maintain independence, uphold professional standards, and ensure objectivity in completing tasks. Why work for Mackay Regional Council?

Salary & Employee Benefits:
Base annual salary $107,820 + applicable allowances Up to 18% superannuation (conditions apply) Choice of 4 or 5 weeks' annual leave with 17.5% leave loading Flexible Working Arrangements with an RDO May be eligible for salary sacrificing options.
