Queensland Corrective Services (Organisation site)Sentence Management Services; Specialist Operations; Community Corrections and Specialist Operations; Brisbane Sentence Management Services (SMS) is responsible and accountable for making decisions regarding prisoner's security classification and placement to ensure the safety of the community, staff and prisoners whilst also providing opportunities for prisoners to undertake relevant rehabilitation activities.(SMS) oversees capacity utilisation, the interstate transfer process and sentence administration.
Sentence administration is a structured legislated process through which QCS adheres with the orders of the court and the applicable legislation, to accurately calculate the sentence of a prisoner and ensure their lawful detention and release.
This role is responsible for the application and provision of high-level advice to senior management on sentence management practices, sentence calculation, security classification, placement, sentence administration, capacity utilisation, legislation, policy, and processes, including incident management and the oversight of risk mitigation strategies.
The essential requirements for this role are: Significant experience or an ability to acquire a high level of expertise in sentence calculation and administration practices, in particular, the interpretation and application of statutory provisions to ensure the accuracy of prisoner release and discharge dates so that prisoners are lawfully held in QCS custody.
Significant experience or ability to acquire such for the provision of advice to senior officers to inform the development of risk mitigation and compliance strategies relating to prisoner administration and management, and capacity utilisation.
Experience in developing and managing stakeholder relationships, particularly those that relate to prisoner management, lawful detention, and capacity utilisation.
Experience in interviewing and assessing prisoners/offenders.
Experience in, and understanding of, sentence management practices, the interpretation and application of statutory provisions or the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge to influence policy and inform procedural amendments.
Strong skills in leadership with the ability to motivate, supervise, mentor, and encourage others to adhere to legislation and practices relevant to sentence management.
Interpersonal skills for negotiating with internal and external stakeholders, who often have competing interests, on sensitive and complex issues.
Research and analytical skills for investigating issues and analysing trends associated with corrections, particularly prisoner management and lawful detention.
