Waste Operations, in collaboration with its contracted service providers, delivers essential waste, recyclables and green waste collection services to over 63,000 households every week. In addition, Council welcomes over 430,000 customers through its Recycling and Waste Centres each year. By leveraging the services provided by the waste and resource recovery industry in South East Queensland, and investing in education and behaviour change programs, Redlands Coast continues to punch above its weight diverting more than half of all domestic waste handled.

What we're looking for: As the Principal Adviser Waste Operations, you will be responsible for providing operational, business, and strategic support to improve waste and resource recovery service delivery and expectations of the Waste Operations Unit.
The role will develop, coordinate, and implement process improvement initiatives, create operational efficiencies, and provide guidance, advice and support across the Unit, to ensure business systems, work procedures, workforce planning, asset maintenance and service delivery expectations are achieved.
Guided by our values your responsibilities will include: Process Improvement: Develop and manage business improvement initiatives through providing high-level support and advice on Council's business policies, processes, and procedures in relation to essential local government service delivery.Implement improved system processes and reporting measures to achieve organisational deliverables.Monitor and analyse industry trends and contribute to the future direction of the City Waste Business Unit in response to commercial and legislative changes that impact on the business functions and performance.Accurately identify requirements, conceptualise analytical methods, access and analyse business data and validate results through the following systems: Property and Rating, Assetic, CI Anywhere Finance, Business Intelligence and GIS.Customer Strategy and Financial Acumen: Provide specialist advice and support to the Service Manager Waste Operations, and liaison with the relevant sections of Council, on the financial, risk and audit, contract management, resourcing, and information management requirements for the Waste Operations Unit.Actively participate in and promote a customer focused and team-based approach within the Waste Operations Unit and the wider City Operations Group to achieve positive outcomes in terms of improving efficiency, communication, and collaboration.The ability to prepare financial, performance and business-related reports and briefings as required.Stakeholder Management and Leadership: Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate ongoing communication, build professional relationships and improvement opportunities that provide benefits to asset maintenance delivery, workload planning and delivery of waste and resource recovery services.More reasons to love working with us: Generous leave provisions such as paid parental leave and purchased leave scheme including 17.5% loading on annual leave!Ex-gratia day offered during the Christmas/New Year break.Access to professional and leadership development programs and education/study assistance.Mentoring and coaching opportunities to increase your industry knowledge and business acumen.Diverse secondment opportunities for career development.Reward and recognition programs.Wellbeing programs and social club.Access to discounts with over 400 leading retailers.Access to RedFlex – our flexible work program offering flexibility in how, when and where you work.Successful applicants will be asked to consent to a police check.
