Our diverse network of dam, geotechnical and associated water specialists in Australia and New Zealand collaborate across geographies as one team to ensure the best outcomes are achieved. The Opportunity: Within Stantec, the Dams & Hydropower market in Australia comprises the following sub-sectors/practice areas and a Practice Leader is appointed to each:
Dams Dam Safety Hydropower Reporting to and together with the Market Leader, Dams and Hydropower Australia, these Practice Leaders form the leadership team for dams and hydropower in Australia.
As the Dams Practice Leader your focus will be on developing and maintaining a sustainable business offering to our clients in all aspects of dam engineering design. It is recognised that the projects in the Dams sub-sector will typically be larger assignments and it will be important to work closely with other Practice Leaders to ensure:
A consistent strategic approach is applied to client management. Dam safety inspections or reviews can develop into dam engineering design packages. Dams typically form an integral component of hydropower projects, including pumped hydro energy storage projects. A balanced variety of project size and scope is achieved across the national dams and hydropower resource pool. The Market Leader and Practice Leaders within the Dams and Hydropower market partner and work collaboratively across Australia and New Zealand to collectively fulfill the functions outlined below and lead the Dams and Hydropower team as one regional resource pool to achieve the best outcomes for our clients and community. This includes working with the Technical Delivery Leader – Water to share materials, approaches, best practice, and consistency where possible so to allow the business to operate as a homogeneous ANZ business.
Reporting to the Market Leader – Dams and Hydropower (ML), the Practice Leader (PL) is responsible for: Developing strategic business opportunities to shape the market and broader Water Business Centre (BC). Supporting the ML in strategic pursuits. Technical excellence of the Practice they represent through project delivery. Ensuring technical delivery consistency within their market. Identifying staff within the BC who have skills within their Practice and nurturing the same. Identifying candidates within the industry who have the skills, experience and cultural fit to strengthen the Stantec team. Linking needs within the market to skills in other Australian and New Zealand BCs and within Stantec globally. Supporting various leadership roles within the BC to deliver technical excellence for our clients. Supporting sustainability literacy training, and development of systems and processes to embed sustainability in projects in the BC. About you: Tertiary qualification in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, with relevant professional experience in the dams industry. Nominally 15 years of related work, technical leadership, and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Highly developed interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients. Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes.
