Policy Officer Innovation Procurement Role type: Temporary Opportunity until 31st December 2025 Grade: Clerk grade 7/8 Location: Sydney We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy Officer to join the Innovation Procurement Pathways (IPP) team within ICT/Digital Sourcing at the Department of Customer Service. The opportunity is initially for 14 months based on current project funding, with possible extension subject to further funding.
This program aims to embed agile procurement practices across government, improve the uptake of new technologies to solve problems people face in NSW, and stimulate growth in the emerging technology sector. You will be at the forefront of delivering innovation-enabling transformation across the NSW Government.
Over the next 1-2 years, IPP will enable better innovation procurement practices through guidance materials, policy frameworks, support services, and education. The program will combine design thinking principles with the collection of evidence through consultation, jurisdictional research, and direct testing to drive change and inform the future support model for innovation procurement.
You will carry out policy research, advise innovation procurement projects directly, and help develop policy frameworks. You will work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional project team that includes business and product owners, a service designer, and an engagement expert to deliver an iterative and consultative change program with user experience at its core.
You will also be responsible for: Keeping up to date with innovation procurement best practices from industry and other jurisdictions Understanding the procurement practices of NSW Government agencies and other public sector organisations to understand their business needs and to ensure IPP will achieve positive outcomes Balancing competing demands to support stakeholder needs while delivering against the IPP program timeline Building and supporting strong working relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate collaboration, information sharing, and issues management to influence outcomes You will be a good fit for this role if you: Are passionate about improving access to the best technology solutions across the NSW Government and stimulating growth in the emerging technology sector Have experience working with ICT/Digital initiatives and/or procurement practices in either a policy or project delivery capacity Are familiar with design thinking, user-centric design, and/or change management Have strong research and communication skills and demonstrated experience producing a range of materials for different audiences, including visual formats Can juggle strategic priorities with day-to-day tasks, anticipate resourcing issues, and communicate proactively with other team members to resolve them Applying is easy! Salary Grade 7/8, with the base salary for this role starting at $106,025 base plus superannuation.
