Policy and Data Officer / Assistant Director, Justice Reinvestment Unit Do you want to support community justice initiatives that Close the Gap for First Nations peoples?

Justice reinvestment is a long-term, community-led approach that aims to prevent crime, address the drivers of contact with the justice system, and improve justice outcomes for First Nations peoples in a particular place or community.
An interim Justice Reinvestment Unit is to be established in the Attorney-General's Department to support communities funded under the justice reinvestment programs to successfully implement their initiatives. The Interim Justice Reinvestment Unit will also lead the development of a justice reinvestment measurement and evaluation framework, and the design of the final Justice Reinvestment Unit.
Roles in the interim Unit will be on a 12-month temporary basis.
Successful candidates at the APS5-6 level will support funded justice reinvestment initiatives to access and use data and evidence to develop and implement local governance arrangements and to monitor and evaluate their justice reinvestment initiative/s at the local level. You will also contribute to the design process for the final National Justice Reinvestment Unit.
The successful candidate at the EL1 level will lead the Unit's measurement and evaluation support stream, supervising APS officers, and leading the development of a Measurement and Evaluation framework, and the design process for the final Justice Reinvestment Unit, in partnership with key stakeholders.
In this capacity you will also be responsible for developing policy submissions and discussion papers for presentation to senior staff, the Attorney-General's Office and external stakeholders.
Roles may involve some travel, including to remote locations.
How you can help make a difference We are interested in hearing from passionate, high-performing applicants with relevant experience and skills in First Nations policy or program initiatives and a demonstrated understanding of First Nations data sovereignty and Closing the Gap Priority reform four.
All of the positions are identified positions . This means that applicants for these positions must demonstrate:
an understanding of the issues affecting First Nations peoples an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with First Nations peoples. While First Nations candidates are strongly encouraged to apply, these opportunities are open to all.
Ideal candidates for the APS5-6 level roles will have: highly developed cultural competency, an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities and demonstrated capacity to work with and communicate sensitively with First Nations peoples experience in monitoring and evaluation frameworks including a strong understanding of data collection, management and analysis and Indigenous data sovereignty and governance principles excellent organisational, project management and planning skills, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple competing priorities at once in tight timeframes strong initiative, a solutions-focused approach and demonstrated innovation and agility to achieve results and provide quality and timely advice. Further to the above, ideal candidates for the EL1 level roles will also have: well-developed leadership, coaching and mentoring skills experience managing complex projects with the ability to manage risks, budgets and resource allocation, and project timelines effectively ability to navigate complex government processes and effectively build and maintain strategic relationships. #J-18808-Ljbffr
