Phlebotomy Manager

Key Responsibilities include:

Maintain and apply specialist knowledge, skills and experience in phlebotomy collection and provide specialist support and advice regarding complex resource and operational issues relating to service provision, as required for the Rockhampton Group Laboratories.
Manage the recruitment, induction, training and performance appraisal and development of all phlebotomy staff to ensure the provision of a high standard of service to clients.
Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals.
Manage the development, implementation and review of systems, policies and procedures to support effective and efficient phlebotomy collection practices within Pathology Queensland Rockhampton Group Laboratories ensuring continual improvement of patient care and service delivery outcomes.
Represent the Rockhampton Group Laboratories on the Pathology Queensland Specimen Collection Discipline Working Party and district committees.
Manage and co-ordinate the physical, financial and human resources of phlebotomy collection across multiple sites in line with the strategic direction of the Rockhampton Group Laboratory and develop strong team ethics to support the operations of a 24/7 laboratory service.

Key Competencies:
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

Demonstrated experience in managing high quality, cost effective specimen collection and processing departments in a clinical pathology laboratory, and in-depth knowledge of laboratory processes.
Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, co-ordinate and train staff across multiple sites to provide an efficient and effective pathology operational service with a commitment to team ethics.
Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict resolution, client liaison and establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, scientific, operational, medical and nursing staff at all levels.
Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
Knowledge and understanding, or ability to acquire knowledge and understanding of, human resource management functions, services and policies applicable to Pathology Queensland to ensure business objectives are met and patient outcomes are optimal.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements:
Whilst there is no mandatory qualification, a Certificate IV in Specimen Collection is considered desirable.
