Project Engineer
Purpose of the Role:
To be responsible for all onsite technical matters including construction verification works. You will schedule, monitor, plan, forecast, resource, and manage all the technical activities aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality. Assist the construction department in the coordination of efficient operation of a multi-discipline workforce, combining direct workforce, supplementary labour, and external subcontractors. Coordinate and ensure compliance of all relevant design, safety, quality, community, environmental and sustainability related deliverables and documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil or mining engineering
Driver's License
Experience:
Minimum 5 years' experience working in the Civil Construction industry on large scale construction projects or other suitable project works – preferred.
Advanced MS Office skills
Competence in interpreting and explaining technical schedules and documentation.
Good contract comprehension
Demonstrated experience in planning and reporting against cost and time.
Strong understanding of programme management, deadlines, and budget controls
High level verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work successfully and autonomously within a fast-paced project environment and deliver on deadlines.
Strong attitude and awareness of safety and focus and commitment to a zero-harm environment.
Proven experience in successfully delivering large work packages with Tier 1 construction contractors.
Prior experience in bulk earthwork, surface drill and blast, large scale FRP packages, ground support and stabilisation works are preferred.
Required Competencies:
Proven working experience as a Project Engineer with a T1 delivery large-scale civil infrastructure.
Familiarity with Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and WHS Legislation
Ability to work with multiple discipline projects.
Decision making ability and leadership skills.
Time management and organization skills
Advanced commercial acumen including cost reduction and meeting budgets.
Verification of subcontractors' claims and variations
Effective management of work programs and performance of teams and subcontractors to achieve project outcomes.
Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Develop construction methodologies, required documentation, programme and SWMS for given packages
Leading the delivery of packages of FRP works, while coordinating with the wider project team and other interfacing parties such as EM subcontractors
Oversee the development and implementation of construction methods onsite in consultation with the Senior Project Engineer and Construction Superintendent
Daily, weekly, and monthly productivity and cost monitoring and reporting
The procuring of permanent materials/Subcontracts
Ensure Site Engineers, and subordinates, are clear on their responsibilities – provide regular feedback to ensure effective performance and develop team members for succession opportunities.
Manage the short/medium construction planning for the works including development of 6WLAH.
Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and key project personnel and ensure buy-in to safety and quality strategies.
Develop QAQC Lot Maps
Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure that the project is safely delivered in accordance with time, budget, and quality requirements.
Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects.
Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
Interact daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field.
Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide technical support.
Review engineering deliverables, provide comments from construction and constructability perspective and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Preparation and coordination of personnel, equipment, and materials to ensure effective mobilisation to the site.
Undertake the preparation of variations including taking off quantities and pricing.
Coordinate and ensure compliance with all design, safety, quality, community and environmental related deliverables and documentation.
Produce any related studies or documentation and method statements as required.
Monitor, document and report, physical progress against schedule and any delays/interference which may have affected progress.
Liaise with client representatives, Senior Project Engineers, Project Engineers and Site Supervision in relation to permits to work, JHA's, ITP, and any other requirements to enable the timely completion of the work.
Ensure that all systems procedures, statutory requirements, engineering standards and sound construction practices are always complied with.
Ensure all day works, variations and other claims and accurately recorded and reported and liaise with contract administration to ensure all financial entitlements of the company are protected.
Actively pursue any gaps in engineering information that may leave the company exposed, or alternatively propose and agree through the proper channels a solution to the problem.

Working Conditions:
The position is based on-site at the Talbingo work site, which is approximately 120km from Cooma. Cooma, New South Wales, approximately 120km from Canberra, Australia's capital city.
Talbingo Intake is part of Lobs Hole, which is the heart of the Snowy 2.0 project, located within the Kosciuszko Park. The roster for this position is Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) based with a 2-1 rotation.
