THE ROLE
Reporting to the General Manager, the OHS & T Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance with the Site Safety Management System to mitigate risks to the business and personnel.
This role ensures compliance with The Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WHS Act), Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 and provides training and mentoring in OHS and compliance to legislation. This position is also responsible for the site emergency and medical functions as well as training.
This role will be offered on a FIFO or DIDO 4:3, 4:3, 8:6 Roster based at our King of the Hills Operation.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Accountable to maintain optimum output for the OHST & ER team by training, supervising and promoting the implementation of effective OHST programs across the operation.
Preparing OHS & ER department budget, and ensuring that the department delivers to the budget, actively driving a focus on costs.
Ensure all scheduled OHST & ER activities are conducted and recorded correctly in the OHS management system.
Liaise with SLT to identify training needs and arrange, facilitate and coordinate training courses as required.
Ensure maintenance and provision of the mine rescue capability and functionality on site.
Approval and management of Emergency Response procedures and preparedness based on a risk assessment for foreseeable events as per Vault Minerals standards.
Ensure the Mutual Aid agreement is active and site familiarisation with partners.
Monitor and audit compliance with legislation and codes of practices to determine appropriate remedial actions.
Liaise with Medical practitioners and providers to facilitate injury management and return to work plans.
Ensure the OHS Department assist in the facilitation, investigation and/or review of all incidents which occur, to determine root causes and corrective actions.
Liaise with Insurance provider to facilitate worker's compensation claims.
Provide ongoing advice and support in the implementation of the Vault Minerals Mine Safety Management System.
Undertake auditing and reporting of site safety systems to determine effectiveness and compliance.
Implement corrective actions identified in the auditing process.
Ensure legal compliance with established legislation through revision of all safety, training and emergency response processes and documentation.
Maintain a program of occupational exposure monitoring and communicate the results to the relevant site and government departments as required and implement effective controls for exposure risk mitigation.
Provide direction and support to the SLT and the OHS team, to eliminate or minimise the risk of injury and unsafe practices on site.
Educate and guide site personnel on best practices to maintain a healthy body and mind and act as a resource to assist if complications or issues arise relating to Fitness for Work.
Ensure direct reports maintain a cohesive team that can support an appropriate level of medical and incident readiness for the operation.
Assist in identifying potential risks or required precautions for employees, contractors and visitors as part of the site entry process.
Administration of the Safety Resources System for KOTH and complete relevant DEMIRS correspondence and reporting. Ensure the work levy man-hour calculations are completed and forwarded each month.
Assist the SLT to achieve a resilient safety culture on site through awareness, visible leadership, innovation and a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
Accountable to ensure the site compliance to Hygiene and Health Monitoring requirements – including Health and Hygiene Management Plan implementation, periodic and scheduled monitoring.
Assisting the General Manager to implement the requirements of the WHS (mines) regulations 2022 in relation to statutory position training and appointments.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

Tertiary qualification in OHS - minimum Certificate IV OHS.
Thorough understanding of the requirements of WHS Act 2020 and WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022.
Broad working knowledge of all aspects of Safety and Occupational Health.
Hygiene Management experience.
ICAM, TapRoot or similar Investigation Training (ability to competently complete a thorough accident investigation).
Knowledge of a broad range of Safety Systems.
WA Driver's License (manual C Class).
